   We tried Walter Hansel Bistro for the first time to celebrate my husband's birthday. We decided to do the prix fixe menu, and we were not disappointed. Prior to dinner, we were given a carrot/ginger soup shooter which was delicious. We started with the Vietnamese beef carpaccio...which was a large portion and delicious. We both enjoyed the Caesar salad. It was a HUGE portion, and the flavors were all fresh and crispyi. A delicious salad. I had the sea bass, served on top of what was like lyonnaise potatoes with sauteed spinach and a delicious, buttery sauce. Wonderful. My husband got the NY Strip with a green peppercorn sauce, cooked perfectly. For dessert, I had a scoop of the Apricot Champagne sorbet and the raspberry sorbet (I have to findwhere I can buy these for home). My husband opted for a cheese plate in lieu of the sweet. He was served a triple cream brie...and he ate every morsel. We enjoyed our visit and we will be back, because we saw a few other dishes being served and they all looked fabulous.

   One of the best restaurant experiences in a long time. Everyone we encountered was amazing. Food was outstanding! If you are thinking about going…just go! Hopefully you get Denise as your server!

   Walter Hansel is hands down the best restaurant in Sonoma county. There isn’t a single thing on the menu I haven’t loved. We are always treated like family when we visit so that’s why we always come back. Can’t recommend this place enough!!

   Tomato bisque and crab cake starter were outstanding. Salad was disappointing, however; greens were not fresh and starting to brown at the edges - this was chopped romaine, not whole leaves as a Caesar should be. But the lightly pickled fresh anchovies were divine, could have eaten a dozen of them! Duck breast was a little too rare and the fruit sauce was overly sweet. Fish was oddly chewy and full of tough tendon although flavor of the fish itself was fine. Don't overlook the gelato/sorbet for dessert - the Apricot Chardonnay sorbet tastes like the essence of Blenheims, the finest apricots; and the Maple Butter Pecan gelato was chock-full of toasted chopped pecans...both were yummy! Service is always excellent at Hansel. Just FYI for newbies: if it is dark out when you visit, do NOT try to park outside the lot (i.e., alongside the road). There are drainage ditches running parallel to both roads and you'll risk breaking a car axle.

   We took advantage of the Restaurant Week menu and found the experience to be amazing. Great food, attentive and friendly service, and wonderful wine selection. We will be back.

    Went for restaurant week. 3 course set menu with choices in each. Beet salad was delicious, Halibut w spinach was flavorful, however fish was a bit overcooked and dry. Great value. Fantastic service, some of the best in Sonoma county.
