   This time around my experience was not that good. I understand that the restaurant was busy, but my waiter never bothered to come over to me until he noticed that I’d been waiting for awhile for my meal and told me he’d check on it. (The host who had seated me at my table had taken my order earlier because the waiter never came over.) In addition, the salmon I ordered was overcooked. Vespaio is usually pretty good on the service and food. But this time was a total flop.

   We have visited this restaurant several times when going to Disney Hall or the Music Center. It is always good. This time the Salmon was very good and fresh. The Chicken’s seasoning was a little off.Despite a reservation we had a middle table which was not nearly as pleasant. Good but not great experience.

   Excellent food. Great drinks. Wonderful service in spite of the restaurant being packed. Great atmosphere. Terrific for pre-theater.

   Done with 3 friends and all enjoyed their pasta dish. Service just right. Very busy when we left, which was nice to see.

   Outstanding food! The artichoke truffle soup, spinach pappardelle with short ribs, barramundi, and the apple cobbler were all exceptional. All were served at the right temperature and presented nicely. Service was slow likely due to short staffing. Be aware there is a 4% business surcharge pre-tax. I didn’t notice this on the menu but it could be there. I’d prefer them increasing the menu prices to accomplish their goal rather than bringing the business of restaurant wages to my attention at the end of my meal.

   We love the quiet ambience of Vespaio for an early dinner after a matinee and the meal has never disappointed us.

   Reliable menu, normally a good experience, restaurant over committed this evening, service suffered. Staging of food off, required 1 & 2nd requests for condiments, support items for table. Will return, but disappointed on this visit.

    I've seen lots of negative comments about pre-theater meals at Vespaio. I can't speak to these. The four of us went early (5 p.m.) after a matinee at the Ahmanson, partially in order to avoid rush hour traffic. Our meal was outstanding! We had pork belly, a pasta, pizza, and rockfish (special for the night). All were very, very good. The rosemary potatoes were probably the best potatoes I've EVER had (potatoes may seem like a trivial part of a meal, but they're an indicator). Service was prompt, friendly, and helpful. My guess is that if you pick the time you go so the restaurant isn't too crowded and if you're not too rushed, you'll have as good a meal as you'll find almost anywhere in the L.A. area.
