The thoughtfully curated beverage program at Vermilion echoes this philosophy with an expansive offering of terroir-driven wines and a cocktail menu committed to seasonally-sourced ingredients.     Vermilion’s Dining Room offers a seasonally-driven celebration of our Mid-Atlantic region and the myriad purveyors who call it home. Chef Anthony Chittum’s continuously evolving menus reflect the day-to-day seasonality of their work and serve as a love letter to the rich bounty this region provides. In addition to the a la carte menu, we're proud to offer the Farm Table tasting menu experience, a family-style three course option designed to showcase our menu in its entirety. For guests unable to access the upstairs dining room, we will happily offer this in the downstairs tavern and bar.

This experience is available to all guests dining in the downstairs dining room and at the bar. While reservations are encouraged for seating in the Tavern, our spacious bar is perfect for last minute get-togethers, happy hour revelry or a simple snack at any hour. Seating in the bar is available first come.

    My table did the tasting menu, pacing was off, and service inconsistent. For example only half of was would get our water refilled or dessert drinks were delayed until after dessert was finished. The food was decent but portions felt small for a group of 4. For example the table ordered the steak as one of the main course options, there was only enough steak for each diner to get a medallion.

    My friend Beth and I were celebrating a special birthday. We planned a hike afterwards so Alexandria was convenient. We like to support restaurants that locally source ingredients and that offer vegetarian options. Ding ding ding! Vermilion. We each enjoyed a citrusy herbal tea, Beth had the French toast and I the Maryland flounder. While dessert didn’t appeal, the wait staff presented Beth with a chocolate pop — nice!

    We have eaten at Vermilion multiple times and it has never disappointed. Food and service are always excellent which is why this place has become one of our go-to restaurants.

    Sometimes reading reviews can raise your expectations. Vermilion had rave reviews , so our anticipation of a wonderful dining experience was high. We reserved the Dining Room. The pimento bruschetta was unique and superb. Bettie’s Buns were fine. The beef loin was prepared well with tasty accompaniments but I was surprised the entree came with only two small slices of beef. My spouse ordered the Trumpet Mushroom Variations which is a large portion of an interesting combination of beans , poached egg, kale pesto and grilled sourdough. Tasty but too ambitious a mixture of tastes. The service was unenthusiastically professional. The sound level allowed for an easy conversation . It was a windy and cold night that night and there was a draft from the windows that required dining with a coat to be comfortable. Our Vermilion experience was fine - but if you're looking for a very special night out with superb food - temper your expectations.

    Vermilion never disappoints, it is our new favorite place in Old Town! This time I brought a friend from out of town and she loved it as well. The tasting menu is the way to go, you get to try so many different dishes!

    Excellent food, but loud background music. We requested sparkling water, whcih was pour into our wter glasses, but varous servers kept refilling the glass with plain water without asking. Irritating. We had difficulty understanding the descriptions of each dish as it was brought to the table.
