The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.

    Been trying to book them since November for our Anniversary celebration in December but they’re already booked and got lucky to get a reservation on the day. And the lady who seated us graciously grant our request to be seated close to the tree.

    First time at the Walnut Room and I truly enjoyed myself. The menu choices, the prices, the ambience were all amazing. I was curious on the reservation details because I reserved for one, since that was all that was available online, but sat at a beautiful table for four...alone. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but I'm concerned the reservation detail when scheduling was off. I will be back again. It gives a high end feel on a budget!

    Everyone was on top of their game. Took a minute for food and drinks but it’s fine. Place was fully staffed and everyone was very friendly. Pot pie was delicious too. 10/10

    We’ve come to the Walnut Room most years at Christmas time for holiday lunch. We were pleasantly surprised about how it’s really turned around for the better in the last 2-3 years. Our lunch was delicious (mushroom ravioli, salmon, chicken pot pies, Yule logs), the service was outstanding and the staff were friendly and helpful. We were very happy with our lunch this year and so glad to see someone is putting energy into making this a great, memorable experience again.

    Our yearly Christmas at the Walnut Room did not disappoint. Tried the breakfast buffet and it was delicious. Always a festive good time.

    I’m so sad to write this review because this is our yearly holiday tradition that we look forward to every year, and last night was the first time we didn’t have a an exceptional experience. The service was sub par and our wait staff looked extremely tired and overwhelmed, so we lowered our expectations however, we ordered our drinks and they didn’t come until after we had already finished our food. I added a grilled chicken to my dish and it was so overcooked that the ends and edges couldn’t even be cut off it was extremely dry. The middle was fine and our wait staff was nowhere to be found so I did not say anything. We were also celebrating my mother in laws birthday and again, staff was nowhere to be found- they kept ignoring our table. We got no water refills, no drinks until after our food was done. They came back and asked what we ordered so they could give us our check. Overall, it was such a let down.
