   Table with a view of the lake on New Years Day. I would recommend trying the octopus and old fashioned with Korbel brandy. Try to arrive before sunset so you can take in the view:)

   Once again, the Statehouse delivered an exceptional experience from start to finish. We brought two out-of-town couples to the New Year's Day brunch. Our original table was so close to the live band that we would have had difficulty talking with each other; we inquired about possibly being reseated and were immediately and graciously accommodated (even though we were a party of 6). Service was extremely attentive and efficient, without ever making us feel rushed. Having not seen each other for over a year, our group also lingered past the official morning seating close without incident. And of course, the food: heaping portions beautifully presented. The french toast and the pancakes were particular stand-outs! The Statehouse never disappoints -- the food, the service, the view, and the overall ambience are unparalleled in Madison!

   I think it’s important to remember that this is a hotel restaurant, so to expect the same type of food, service and atmosphere of a typical 4 star restaurant was a mistake. We went for New Year’s Day brunch, and they appeared understaffed, as are so many places lately. However, the “host” (who perhaps was thrown into this role today?) was not very cordial or pleasant. This is your first impression and needs to be a good one! However, our server was pleasant and attentive. The food was lackluster and overpriced. The table was not set when we arrived and was haphazardly thrown together as we sat, and I do mean thrown. Clanging dishes, dropped napkins and just a general rushed feeling. The table should be seat before being seated. The view was nice, but we were seated in a corner so half our party didn’t have one. If you want an excellent meal in a beautiful setting there are much better choices in Madison.

   The Statehouse was so beautifully decorated for the holidays! Your waitstaff was so friendly and kind and all of your food on New Year’s Day was delish! The Eggs Benedict’s were so good and the salad had a lovely dressing!! And your peach Bellini w/ fresh rosemary was yummy!! We sooo loved the jazz keyboardist and drummer!! Your Jazz Brunch was a lovely way to ring in the year and our party of 4 would like to make it a tradition!

   Visited the restaurant during NYE. Atmosphere was wonderful but the food and drinks were uninspiring. Steak and chicken under seasoned, nothing exciting in the NYE menu or special drinks for the day. Overall food 1 out 5 do not recommend.

   We were underwhelmed with our experience. With the Edgewater being a staple in Madison, I was expecting a bit more. We started with the artisan butter board and received bread that was burnt. We still tried to eat through it, but it made for a burnt taste with the butter. My husband liked his drink, but it wasn’t a huge fan of mine (not on them, a personal preference). Next I ordered the lobster bisque, but it barely had a lobster taste and had the consistency of water. At first I was worried it was going to fill me up before the meal, but that was not the case. My husband and I both ordered the NY Strip Steak, which was good, but nothing special. We watched another table order burgers and felt like that might have been the better choice. During the dining experience, we had long points in between before our server returned to get our actual order. Plus they did not really check in until our main meal. I didn’t think it was super busy, but maybe there were additional rooms I couldn’t see. Would we go back, probably not. Definitely not for a celebration dinner. The location is beautiful and the dining room is well kept.

   Wow. That was delicious. Our server was Luis who was very pleasant (had to flag him down a couple times but overall did a great job). Drinks were served fairly quickly (old fashions and black manhattans were tasty). Started with the bread and butter. 3 types of "toppings" on the butter and it was a fun way to start the meal with warm bread. Then we shared a caesar salad that was prepared with some crispy cheese on top and not drenched in dressing. The lobster bisque was like a miso soup meets bisque, different and good but not sure if I would get it again. I had the filet and my wife had the salmon with the skin cooked to a crisp and both were cooked beautifully. Highly recommend.

   The food here is excellent and they made sure to accommodate to my gluten sensitivity. Our server was Nick and he made sure we had an outstanding time and was very friendly! I would definitely go back.
