Located in the Old Engine House on the edge of York's Museum Gardens in a riverside setting close to the historic Lendal Bridge, The Star Inn The City has an enviable position, which we aim to match with the best produce God's Own Country has to offer and genuine Yorkshire hospitality for the 'whole package'.

We offer an all day menu which can be enjoyed for both lunch and dinner, as well as serving up breakfast Friday to Sunday, and on Sunday's we serve up our famous Sunday roasts between 12-4pm.

We pride ourselves on being a a food-led celebration destination, with guests being able to enjoy view of the River Ouse from our Garden Room or outside on our riverside terrace. For more intimate occasions we also offer two exclusive Private Dining rooms for celebrations such as graduations, weddings and birthdays.

Beautiful meal, efficient, friendly but unobtrusive service and a lively atmosphere. Only downside was an icy blast every time the front door opened (table 16 I think). Lovely evening

Fabulous meal celebrating our friends 50th! Staff went out there to make it special for him. Food was superb - the venison toad in the hole was superb, Would visit again in a heartbeat 💓

Superb place really magical ambience. The staff were brilliant; friendly and attentive. Went for a Christmas meal with my daughter and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent and the ox cheek sublime. Can’t wait to go again next time in York.

We had a lovely meal at the star inn the city. The service was really attentive and they really looked after all of us. Special mention to Chris who was our main server and thank you especially for being so accommodating when we were so late!

A pleasant Christmas buzz about the place. Busy and warm atmosphere. Food choices were good. All courses served at appropriate intervals. We both enjoyed our food and the wine was good too.

Always great friendly service. It’s a large restaurant with a good atmosphere and very easy to chat without too much noise. Great wine list. Interesting and delicious food. We go often and it’s never let us down.
