The Smoking Goat is an award-winning California-French bistro located in the heart of North Park, San Diego. We have received the Gold Medallion for the best French Bistro in San Diego three years running.

Inspired by his European Farm-to-Table up-bringing and culinary training at Le Cordon Bleu Paris, Executive Chef and Owner Fred Piehl, marries classic French cuisine with the bounty of San Diego in a way that is rustic, yet refined, imaginative, yet unpretentious.

The dinners served feature in-season local, sustainable and organic ingredients and provide guests with a unique culinary experience, reminiscent of the European countryside.

Boasting a carefully selected wine and beer list and chef and bartender attention to select spirits to create craft house cocktails, The Smoking Goat assures there is always the correct pairing available.

We were sat 30 minutes after our reservation with no apology. Then nobody even came to serve us. We were sat outside with no heaters. We had to move inside to the bar. From there we got great service and really enjoyed the restaurant week deals

Service was a bit rushed and abrupt. Restaurant week crowd probably had something to do with it but there were still empty tables and bar seating. Table was not ready for our 6:30 reservation, but we got seated at 6:45 when we were told we had a 90 minute slot due to restaurant week. We were not able to order until 7pm leaving 60 min before they wanted their table back. Not a great feeling. Felt the server was pushing certain selections for reasons other than they were 'the best'. Portions were surprisingly large.

Had dinner during SD restaurant week. Overall experience just okay . Escargot appetizer was quite salty than usual. Macaroni and cheese just seemed plain. Steak and frites were good as usual. Enjoyed the creme brûlée dessert. Pace of the meal was rushed at first as we received our main courses while still working on the appetizers, then slowed to a comfortable pace. I would return for another visit.

We love the place. It’s best to sit at the chef‘s counter. Which I should not be telling you. Ryan was our server last night. Did a great job. The manager Alex came by and chatted with us for a bit, always a pleasure to talk to. Escargot, the prime rib, French onion soup, pork chop, and our creme Brûlé dessert was all unbelievable. My new favorite spot in San Diego.

One of the shining stars in the San Diego Food Firmament. I’m a proud loyal fan since day 1 and had a wonderful belated birthday date dinner with my wife. Everything delicious as always, can never decide what to have, always want it all!
