As always a lovely hotel and views from the terrace but the food and service is abysmal..very poor and overpriced. £15 for a dried up sandwich with limp side salad. £10 for half a glass of wine. Awful coffee, half an hour's wait for a scoop of sorbet ! Unfortunately this has been my experience here once too often .

No haddock so chose light bite red onion marmalade quiche, mixed leaves and fries. Dessert frangipani and almond cake with pistachio ice cream. The cake was like a cold hard brick. My husband had chicken pie and waiter said comes with no potatoes so he ordered fries. It came with potatoes and mixed veg. We shares the frangipani. Bill for this and2 J2Os the bill was £64. The main attraction is the position of the restaurant overlooking the chain ferry but sadly was raining so had to eat inside.

It would be hard to beat the view from this restaurant being that it overlooks the sea and Studland. It was our 45th anniversary and we were presented with two glasses of bubbly. The meal and service were excellent. It does seem a shame that so many people turn up in scruffy jeans and tea shirt. We have been there before and dress standards definitely seem to have slipped. This is just a personal opinion.

We asked the manager of the restaurant in the afternoon if we could sit at a certain table as my parents have trouble walking too far, he obliged and said he would reserve it for us, on arrival the table was occupied and we were given a table at the end of the restaurant as the waiter said it hadn’t been noted on our booking!

The dining room has a lovely view, interesting to watch all the goings on around the harbour entrance. The hotel itself is a bit dated looking. I ordered a vegan started, main and dessert. However, there was not much choice; a couple of the dishes were not available. The first course was cooked asparagus but it was very basic; I had to ask for the sauce which was meant to have come with the dish. The next dish was tasty - a mushroom bourguignon; however, it was purely a bowl full of a lot of mushrooms, with a very few other vegetables. It would have been better on a plate served with something like rice, potatoes and green vegetables. The pudding, a chocolate brownie, was nice. My guest's asparagus starter was not any better, the cake for dessert was dry and the cream it came with tasted on the edge of being off. So altogether, we thought the food definitely priced too highly for what it was.

The food served at dinner at The Point restaurant in the Haven Hotel is really excellent. We ate both nights we stayed. The food was expensive but delicious. The view from the restaurant is wonderful. Virtually every table has a sea view. The service at the bar, where you had to queue for drinks was friendly but chaotic. Surprised that a four star hotel made you queue up for drinks. Service at the dinner table again was friendly but inefficient. Probably too few staff and lack of experience. There are lots of problems recruiting staff in hospitality these days. I would like to thank Alessi, who was very good.

On arrival they obviously hadn’t read the special requests so that was wasted. The starter and main were delicious the service was initially good but it dissipated as the night went on. By the time we got to dessert it was non existent it took then 20 minutes to take our order then the table next to ours received their dessert even though they ordered 15 minutes after us. When questioned the waitress said chef was creating it now so I expected something spectacular to arrive only to be disappointed to find that frangipane was a slice of cold cake with a scoop of non de script tasting ice cream not sure why it took so long I can only assume they forgot. When asking for the bill and asked if everything had been to my liking I advised the food had been good but the service had been lacking . The response I got was that they had a birthday party in so had been more distracted however I pointed out that all customers should receive the same level of service birthday or not.
