We travel over an hour to come here. The food is outstanding and is consistent. Tasty, hot and just delicious. Beautiful setting and attentive staff. The pubs got a cosy feel to it. A true gem, thank you!

Great food and very attentive service service. We are the chip police - and thankfully the chips are totally amazing (ordered thick cut), they were beautifully crunchy/glassy yet fluffy inside. Had to chase down the gluten free menu, but they were apologetic and it's so good they have one with lots of choice if it's what you need (ie not just a few token items). Felt the beetroot/pear starter had a minuscule amount of crumbed stilton on it - it should def have a bit more - and had to request some butter for the mussels/oat bread starter. It came immediately and without quibble - the butter def made it a star starter (awesome broth, oat bread and mussels) - and the butter was whipped and shaped into a beautiful shiny quenelle. The cranberry and clementine trifle (GF) was awesome, pillowy thick cream and set custard and was not too sweet. Mains were pork chop and a pork bonbon - chop amazing, bonbon somewhat plain - and the plaice and samphire was nice - which we got the chips for. Ordered a flat white but it wasn't a flatwhite, would be GREAT if they could get some proper flat whites / barista trained coffee people at some point, as people expect more from their coffee these days. We are fussy, and getting something this good takes skill and commitment - this was a fabulous lunch and the staff were very, very attentive and quick to respond. Will definitely come again!

Excellent food, friendly service. Strong dinner menu albeit not hugely flexible for lunch. Good cooking and well presented, definitely worth a detour.

Really disappointing meal from start to finish , we asked for a side of pigs in blanket put they were under cooked so asked for them to be given more time in the oven and for the bacon to be crispy, which I’m return that wasn’t the case.My husband‘s steak came and it had a large amount of fat we asked them to to replace the steak with a better cut of meat and we got question whether we just wanted the fat removed we had to point out the fact that I myself had a nice cut of steak, so why didn’t my husband have the same? They then decided to cook another steak which by that point my dinner had gone cold and I was sat eating on my own with my husband watching me then when my husband’s returned I then had to sit and watch him eat his which for a birthday meal paying over £33 for a steak each he’s just really really disappointing by this point my husband decided he didn’t want a desert which I didn’t blame him. When asked at the end, how our night & meal was we raised our concerns and disappointment to still to be told they will inform the manager on feedback but he he never came over to talk to us or offer any free drinks or discount on our meal which was over £160 so we left very disappointed and will not be returning in a hurry not the surprise birthday meal I had planned for my husband !
