   Had a lovely afternoon with a friend. Food was great. Atmosphere was cosy and we were able to chat easily. Service was very good Thanks Black swan

   Lovely dinner and great service. Only reasons for 3 star review is that firstly, a 12.5% tip is automatically added.. I like to decide what tip I feel is deserved, not have it decided for me! And secondly, the menu (Valentines menu) was incredibly basic which was a shame. I wouldn’t return simply due to the tip issue, I find that shocking.

   Hi Christy, Please understand that on the bottom of all our menus that it is stated that a discretionary service charge is added to all bills that receive table service. If this would have been an issue we would have more than happily removed this for you on the day as it is down to the discretion of the customer whether they wish to pay this.    We came to the Black Swan having passed it by, many times whilst travelling to a favourite dog walking area. We kept saying we must go there for a meal some time. Well today we did, and will definitely be returning. The service was excellent as was the meal, we had a Valentine Special, haunch of venison.

   Good menu, superb service. The Camembert was deliciously runny. The chicken Kiev was high in calories but tasty.

   I have been dining at this restaurant for many years and have had mixed experiences.Unfortunately today wasn’t a great lunch purely because we didn’t actually get to eat until 1 hour 45 minutes after sitting down! The staff were excellent polite and helpful but it was clear that they were understaffed and unable to cope with the demands of a full restaurant. There was only one overworked barman for the entire restaurant who was unable to get the drinks to customer within a reasonable timeframe which was not his fault at all. The food when it eventually arrived was delicious and of very good quality. The ambiance was warm and inviting. I don’t think I’ll book here again as there are many more restaurants locally who serve equally delicious food far quicker. There were only two of us eating today so I dread to think how long larger tables of people had to wait! Such a shame as the restaurant could be much better than my experience today.

   Hi Pennie, We are sorry to hear you didn't have the experience we strive to provide. An wait time of that long does seem a bit excessive as we are always checking at what point food was put through to the kitchen and the time people have been waiting for courses. I would be more than happy to look into this as this does not seem right at all. We were extremely busy last Sunday and while we did have a few members of staff become unwell, however we did not have any issues with food or drinks delays. Kind Regards The Black Swan

   Friendly welcome and service; food was yummy. V quiet but then again, it was a Monday lunch time so never going to be heaving with people

   Nice busy pub and lunch was pretty good. Just felt quite tired inside and like it could do with a facelift

   The food is always consistently good and the welcome and service from the French lady is tres bien ! Our favourite place to eat for a treat 🩷

    Great venue, nice atmosphere (albeit quiet for a Saturday night). Burgers with cheese and bacon had a strange fishy taste. Staff conferred with chef who said no cross contamination. One of our party couldn’t eat their burger because of this issue. No offer to change it. Otherwise service was no worse/no better than usual, service charge added without any discretion to pay it. Disappointing evening in the Surrey Gaston pub of 2023/24

    Hi Graham, We are sorry to hear your experience with us did not live up to expectations. I do believe that on evening an alternative meal was offered to the person who raised the issue but this offer was not taken up, as we will always do our best to ensure all our guests our happy, following a strict service cycle of attentive check backs etc. In regards to service charge, it is stated on our menus that a discretionary service charge is added to all of our table service bills, any customer may choose to not pay this. I do believe that the waiter on the evening asked if everything was all ok with the bill to ensure everything was correct before taking payment. Kind Regards The Black Swan
