This is a great location for amazing food. They blend Mexican and Asian cuisine in a presentable and delicious way. However, if you are looking for a place with good food and conversations, I would not reccomend this spot. The music is very loud making it hard for a party of more than 2-3 to hear eachother in a conversation. The restaurant is beautifully decorated as well. Would highly recommend for the food but not for an engaging conversation over the dinner. Hope this helps :)

I love sumomaya! It’s always a great place for a night with friends. The shared plates are always so delicious. I love the vibe inside and our servers were so friendly.

Our server was fantastic! Wish I got her name but she was super sweet and checked on us regularly. Food was outstanding - especially loved the pad thai entree. The only thing I would have changed is if I could have boxed it to go 🥰 Loved everything, great ambiance and not pretentious or snobby! Will be back for sure.

This has been my favorite restaurant for years because i'm never disappointed! It's a must to take anyone that visits az to Sumo Maya for an unparalleled and unique experience. The dishes are so creative and high quality that i know they'll leave satisfied and impressed. Last night we ordered the jalapeño yellowtail crudo, calamari appetizer, happy ending sushi roll, miso seabass, salmon, Dan Dan noodles, kimchi fried rice, miso eggplant and asparagus- all 11/10! Can't wait to go back.

We’ve been to Sumo Mayo brunch several times, but after our visit on Saturday, January 11th, we were left disappointed. From the moment we walked in, the experience was off-putting. The hostess barely acknowledged us, avoided eye contact, and gave more attention to the party that arrived after us. When we were finally seated, the table was in the middle of a walkway—an issue since two of us have mobility challenges. We requested a different table, and the hostess rudely refused, saying the booths were reserved for larger parties. Oddly enough, a nearby table for six remained empty throughout our entire meal, making the refusal seem unnecessary. Our server started off strong by bringing out some of the most popular appetizers, which was a really nice touch and made for a good start. However, it became frustrating when we had to repeatedly request the specific appetizers we actually wanted. On top of that, an egg dish I requested never arrived, even after asking multiple times. The server repeatedly admitted that he hadn’t put in what we requested until we followed up again and again, which disrupted the overall experience. We had an out-of-town guest with us, and unfortunately, the new menu didn’t live up to expectations. It leans heavily towards sweet dishes, whereas the old menu felt more balanced and inclusive. This visit fell far short of what we’ve come to expect from Sumo Mayo brunch, and we’re hesitant to return.

Our meal was an excellent fusion of Asian and Mexican cuisines. They suggested approaching with a shared plate experience, and that was the right way to go. Everything we had - sushi rolls, salmon and toro nigiri, guac with pomegranate (like my great aunts from Mexico used to make!), rainbow ceviche, seafood paella, and street corn - was fresh, tasty, and well-presented. The creative flavor combinations made for delightful discoveries on the menu. It's a bit pricey, but we felt it was worth it. The attentive and prompt service was excellent.
