   The menu was quite limited, food was good but not great . Admittedly we had high expectations but nothing was above average , the cocktail specials weee poor, one had to be returned, the service was average, but waiter seemed confused the whole night, the desert was bland, the wine pour was about as small as they come, so for the cost ( which we understood ahead of time) we did not receive much value for this dinning experience.

We regret to hear that your experience did not exceed your high expectations. Regarding the limited menu, as advertised, we are currently running our special Valentine's pre fixe menu through 2/23 so the selections would vary from a full menu. In regards to your other comments, please know that we will share them among our team. As you can see from our other reviews, exceeding expectations is what we do best and strive for.    Of course nothing beats the summer views here but still a great option in the winter!! Staff, as always, the friendliest and most attentive in Newport!

   We went in January which is the off season and it was still so enjoyable. It was dark so we didn’t have a view but the service was great, food was delicious, and the atmosphere of the whole hotel/dining room was fantastic. There were 2 other tables and a few people at the bar, so that could be why the service was so great, but we were able to arrive, eat apps, and dinner in just under an hour. We could’ve absolutely had stayed longer, we did not feel a push to leave. This does not feel like a hotel restaurant at all.

   Although limited, the food was tasty, especially the chicken dish. The safari theme is not ageing well and they need to redecorate the bar and dining room. More contemporary decor is needed. The service was excellent.

   Everything was really fine with the exception that there was a shop and sip event which I think had a negative impact on the service

    We had looked over the menu and selected what we wanted prior to arriving at the Safari Room. We were quite disappointed when we arrived and were told they were only serving their Restaurant Week prix fixe menu, which should have ended two weeks ago. Nothing on their website indicated that was the only menu they were serving, and the hostess admitted it has been causing confusion. As this restaurant was already out of the way, we had no alternative but to try it out. Amuse Bouche was ok, but my wife had a shellfish allergy so serving up lobster wasn’t good for her. More on allergies later. The appetizer was the highlight for us, she had beetroot salad which she enjoyed, and I had butternut squash soup which was very nice. Entrees were a bust. The selection was not great, so we both ordered Chicken Milanese. It may have been fine if they didn’t top it with a cloyingly sweet apricot jam. That ruined the whole dish, as you couldn’t get away from it. The Brie also was a weird choice on this dish. I’ve eaten Milanese many times and never seen it so prepared so strangely. Finally, dessert. My wife had her heart set on the bread pudding of their normal menu, but the only offered Chocolate Pot de Creme (no other ingredients described) or Pistachio Olive Oil cake. Desserts arrived and the Chocolate contained walnuts, which is my wife’s other allergy. Thankfully our server, who was good, confirmed they were walnuts before she ate any. Again, they don’t seem concerned about allergies, which is normally don’t pose a problem when we know what is in a dish. I ordered the Pistachio cake, which they drowned in a lemony syrup. Terrible. What a waste of a night out. We paid and left. The Safari Room is definitely not for us.
