! We are located directly across from City Hall at 55 Washington Street, there is a black gate with a Roots sign on it and you will find us 20 yards into a park called Center Street Marketplace, the restaurant has limited visibility from the street. !

Roots mission is to create delicious food from fresh, local ingredients. Vermont offers an agricultural bounty of flavorful produce, meat, dairy and other food products that are staples of the Roots menu.
Roots is committed to providing affordable meals from minimally processed, locally grown ingredients, including organic crops and humanely raised, pasture fed livestock.

Visit us in downtown Rutland and enjoy a delicious, wholesome local meal.

    Had another great dinner - the menu is varied - quick service - my only suggestion is to offer 1/2 salads - entirely too much kale - the scallop topped salad was awesome - the butternut squash soup was very tasty - my husband enjoyed the salmon entree - The online reservation system is easy to use The flowers for the women were a nice touch Hope to repeat next year

    Had a wonderful time at Roots. The ambience, service and food was great. The mussels were amazing and they come with this rich tangy garlic tomato sauce. My husband and son ordered the salmon and I ordered the almond crusted cod with sweet potato hash and amaretto butter which was amazing. Great place with a really fun atmosphere

    Who knew Rutland had this gem? Great pub steak and buffalo shrimp. My son and I sat at the bar and had an amazing experience! Great beer and drink selections. Next time I’m in town, I WILL be back.

    We had dinner at ROOTS before a show at the Paramount Theatre. Dinner was delicious. All five of loved our mains and the desserts were over the top.

    Roots is one of those rare establishments that is beyond modest and understated in everything until the food arrives. Amazing plating, creative dishes, fresh ingredients and just incredible. It’s been farm to today from inception without name dropping much or if at all. Have been a regular for years when in town to see family, and back in the day trusted with some special family events booth at restaurant and outside. Roots is an absolute foodie paradise but in most unpretentious setting. While I eat at plenty of restaurants annually all over North America roots is always one of favorite meals of the year of the year.

    Roots has a nice ambience and a diverse selection of food and libations. I would definitely recommend. Just know that Google has a very hard time locating it since it is behind buildings and many of the alleys were closed this January evening.
