The original Reata Restaurant located in the scenic Davis Mountains of west Texas offers the same fine dining and Legendary Texas Cuisine you can find at the Fort Worth location. Alpine, home to Sul Ross State University is near Texas tourist destination Big Bend National Park and the towns of Marathon, Fort Davis and Lajitas. Alpine is also a short drive from Marfa, Texas renowned both for the mysterious Marfa Lights and Donald Judd's Chinati Foundation. Reata, named after the legendary ranch in the James Dean classic movie, "Giant", which was filmed in nearby Marfa, boasts the same high quality Southwestern dining you can find in Fort Worth. This is not food for the faint of heart, from Chicken Fried Steak to Calf Fries or the Pepper Crusted Tenderloin and Cowboy Rib Eye Steak, this is a dining experience not to miss.

We waited thirty minutes at our table before the waiter took our order. It took another thirty minutes to get our drinks because the bartender/owner "Bart" was drunk and texting behind the bar. We watched three tables get up and leave without getting any food, with one being told by the staff that the order never got placed with the kitchen. We were then told that our order never got placed either. After waiting over 90 minutes from being seated, our food came out to mediocre results. They "ran out" of cream gravy for the Chicken Fried Steak, but the little gravy they did provide had the consistency of old pudding. So, it took a total of three hours to eat here, it was expensive, the food wasn't good, and the staff just kept saying "it was WAY worse last night". All in all, it was a disaster, and we won't be back. Get it together, Bart...

Horrible - we had to wait 30 minutes to get water on our table. We had to go to the front to get our own menus. When the food came, the vegetables and sides were cold. The owner said he only had one server working tonight but I counted at least three servers. Will not go back.

Nice ambiance. Average food but priced as above average. Poor service (drinks came 5 minutes after the food. Never brought 2nd drink and then at the end the server didn’t bring the change back, when asked took 10 minutes. When ask again threw $20 back at me and said fine don’t tip me (still tipped $11). She assumed she was getting a 33% tip with poor service I guess.

Nice dining experience in a pleasant atmosphere. Server was inexperienced but tried his best; had a good attitude. We had the Field Green salad, and we both had Blackened Salmon with Dill Sauce. All of are food tasted good and was prepared properly.

I've eaten at Reata a lot of times over the years and never had an issue. This time was the exception. I had reservations for 7:30 and they were not prepared, watched another couple come in a little while later that said they had reservations and there was not a table prepared for them either. Awesome food, awesome service, great atmosphere. Just needs a little work on reservations.

It did not live up to the hype. The service was great! Andy took excellent care and attention. However, the steak was undercooked to order and the other entrees were cold. Overall experience was underwhelming for all of the build up.

Ambiance is nice, but we were seated at a table right by the entrance, so it was distracting and not pleasant to have people coming in and out throughout the meal. The appetizers were good and 2 shared orders could make a meal. The chicken and shrimp on the Pasta Alfredo was dry and overcooked. Portion of pasta was huge; enough for 2 lunches the next few days. Next time I will sit in the bar area. The mural on the outside wall was beautiful and it was much quieter.
