South Texas Ice House, "Texas Cuisine" Products from the Texas Gulf to the Texas Hill Country.

"The huge snake logo on the outside of an otherwise nondescript building -- created by Bob "Daddy-O" Wade, best known for the oversize boots that front San Antonio's North Star Mall -- is your first hint that this place might be a bit, well, different. Inside, cowboy kitsch, 1950s diner decor, and Mexican folk art mingle, as do workers from the nearby county offices, local movers and shakers, and anyone else looking for terrific food that, like the decor, defies easy categorization.

Call it South Texas gourmet. You can really taste the chipotle chilies in the tartar sauce that comes with some of the best crispy oysters this side of the Mason-Dixon Line, and the Gulf fish tacos are gussied up with chili lime aioli and Tabasco jalapeño onions. You get the idea -- lots of spicy dishes."

Wanted to have a nice meal while I was in Austin for SXSW. It was a bit on the pricy side but the quality of the food was totally worth it. Had the fried oysters and the Divorced Quail. I was particularly impressed how good the side vegetables were. The Ranch Water is potent and one is about 2-3 drinks worth. Be prepared!

Great choices for food. Divorced quail were a great pick for the two of us and frog’s legs excellent too. Also the venison. Drinks were first class. Service exceptional. Not a thing to gripe about. Have been coming here each year for SxSW conference and no drop in quality. Happily recommend.

We were fortunate to score a table on short notice on a Thursday night during SXSW. The vibe was very cool, the menu was creative and fun and the food was delicious. The Divorced Quail, though living together on the menu for a number of years, are still obviously in love with each other. Their divorce may not have worked out, but the dish sure did. For a casual night just off West 6th, Ranch 616 is outstanding.

Delicious- the divorced quail was the best I have had in years! The crispy fried oysters were fresh and plentiful. The Texas Snapper was also wonderful.

One of the persons in our group had a service dog. And while we should have been allowed to stay inside, it was strenuously encouraged we sit outside. The “live” entertainment was too loud and no one could hear the other person. It was far too loud for a morning brunch. The food was okay. No one ordered anything with modifications, but no one would order the same items again. It’s really hard to mess up French toast and eggs over easy. It’s a decent venue and has a lot of niche themes…but…it’s not something we will consider again when in Austin.

We were asked to leave after hour 30 minutes, next reservation was waiting. Just as our drinks were served , so make sure you inquire about time limit. Small restaurant very close proximity to other patrons , rubbing elbows!

Iconic Austin eatery. Table ready on time, not hurried by the wait staff. Food was delicious and price was very fair.
