Pretty sure they've renovated since I've last been, and the ambience is worse than before. Also, much less food than I've gotten in the past at the same (or higher) price. Service wasn't great, and the server refilled our salsa without telling us it would cost extra. Overall, the food was okay and but not worth the price (except for the Al Pastor taco which is actually really good). Also, if you get the frozen margaritas, don't pay the extra 2 bucks for flavor, its pretty much unnoticeable.

Great renovation. Ambiance and overall experience would be much better once the patio is open and you will be able to accommodate more patrons.

Great experience. Highly recommend the molcajete for two, a Cadillac Margarita and some guac6and queso as appetizers. You won't be disappointed. We had a party of 8, and we were seated immediately and promptly served. All guests loved their food and fresh, authentic flavors.

We love Zocalo, but that night, was abysmal. I walked up to the host stand, which was not busy, and was told to wait a moment by the host. He then walked around the restaurant for 10 minutes, chatting with people throughout, before returning to us. I identified myself, and he walked us past several vacant tables to go to a table next to an open window, gave us 3 place settings and said that he'd return with fourth. He did not. After waiting for another 10 minutes in the cold, I had noticed that all the heaters were turned on except for the one over the window we were seated next to. I flagged down a server and asked if he could turn on the heater. He disappeared. After another 10 minutes, I flagged him down again, to be told that he couldn't turn on the heater because another table, not near the window, wanted it left off. I asked to be re-seated in the interior of the restaurant. After another 10 minutes, a very-much-put-upon host returned and moved us back to one of the tables we had walked past originally. We had no place settings. Our server came and took our order, which included a pitcher of frozen margaritas, table-side guacamole, and entrees for each of us. We also asked for place settings. She went away and came back with chips, no salsa and no place settings. After another 10 minutes of watching our pitcher of frozen margaritas defrosting on the bar, I walked up to the waitress, who was looking at her phone, and asked again for our missing place settings, the salsa, and whether the margarita pitcher on the bar was ours. She gave us the margaritas, but nothing more. Another 10 minutes, and the food runner came with our entrees. We asked her for our place settings and salsa, and told her that our tableside guacamole appetizer had never arrived. She brought the place settings and salsa a few minutes later, so we were able to start on our entrees. After a while, a slapped-together guacamole was plopped on the table, which tasted m'eh. Do better.

The food is always fantastic. Service is great. The atmosphere is very casual and fun, like eating in a Mexican tree-house with lots of energy.

Thanks to our server, Stacy. She made it possible for our friend to have a good birthday party, and even put sparklers on the cake. The food was fast and taste great. Highly recommended.
