Review summary

Willie Mae's NOLA offers a delightful dining experience with "unbelievably delicious" food, exceptional hospitality, and a relaxed ambiance. The fried chicken is often praised as the "best in New Orleans," and the gumbo is a highlight. While service is friendly, the new location is still refining operations. Highly recommended for traditional Southern flavors.

It was Willie Mae’s at what they do best and they didn’t disappoint. The cup of gumbo was tiny but mighty. We had the 1/2 chicken (leftovers baby!) with the cabbage as the side. The cabbage was a next level experience. I find most local restaurants “Cajun- fy” foods they don’t understand with Tony’s seasoning, but this was none of that. It reminded me of home- grounded in real flavors to enhance - not to cover up. They understood the assignment and succeeded. The chicken was, obviously, fantastic. Crispy yet juicy. We arrived way too early for our reservation and the host and hostess did their best to accommodate us. We happily waited for a preferred table. Great service. I thought my cocktail was a little weak, but that was the only room for improvement. I’m still dreaming of that cabbage. I wish they’d add a veggie platter of all sides. It was too good.

Service was slow but the food was good and the wait staff were nice. It’s a cool brunch vibe kind of spot and the cocktails were good.

I was pleased with my meal (shrimp tacos) but the person I came with was not! It took almost 30mins for her order to come out & she was very displeased with the cheese grits, scrambled eggs, and bacon. The only thing she liked was the fried chicken! She was extremely disappointed!

This is definitely southern fried and over the top. This chicken will make you slap your mama and run. On that note, the best damn cabbage I had. I texted my coworker in the middle of the night because it really did make me that happy.

Review of Willie Mae’s NOLA Gumbo Willie Mae’s NOLA is a must-visit for anyone seeking authentic Southern comfort food, and their gumbo is nothing short of amazing. The dish is a perfect balance of rich, smoky flavors and hearty ingredients, showcasing the essence of New Orleans cuisine. The roux, the heart of any gumbo, is expertly crafted—dark, velvety, and brimming with flavor. It’s evident that hours of care go into achieving that depth. Packed with tender chicken, succulent shrimp, and spicy sausage, every bite offers a burst of well-seasoned goodness. Served over a bed of fluffy white rice, the gumbo is warm, filling, and incredibly satisfying. The portion size is generous, ensuring you leave with a happy belly. Pair it with their cornbread or a side of sweet tea for the full Southern experience. Willie Mae’s gumbo isn’t just a meal—it’s a soulful celebration of tradition and flavor. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this dish is a testament to why New Orleans remains the culinary heart of the South. Highly recommended!
