Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
White Horse - Welwyn offers a charming venue with a "great garden" and is ideal for watching football. While some diners enjoyed "delicious" meals and "friendly" service, others experienced inconsistencies in food quality and service speed. The pub's atmosphere remains inviting, but attention to detail in kitchen operations could enhance the dining experience.

We visited The White Horse pub on a number of occasions, as we really like the overall ambience. I decided to treat my wife and I to a festive meal. We ordered drinks, and the main course was brought out. It only came to mind later, but they did not ask how I wanted my steak. I was going to wait a little while for the pudding, but when I visited the toilet and came back, the pudding was there. The food was wonderful, and even though I have highlighted some issues, we will be going back

We’ve not been to the white horse for a long time and we won’t sadly be returning. We waited over an hour for our food and then when it came they had forgotten part of the order. The staff were incredibly apologetic and we did have money knocked off our bill. What was unforgivable though was the standard of the food when it arrived. Parsnips were inedible, beef was dry, potatoes were hard. The chicken was decent and our son liked his chicken nuggets.

Sunday lunch wasn't good, beef was extremely tough, 2 diners didn't eat there's and asked to take it home for the dog. Also, really basic things like ashtrays overflowing and glasses left out from the night before. Toilet roll not put into the dispenser, just left on the side. Basic hospitality just not done, a real shame as this pub used to be great. Lovely waitresses, but to be reeled off a list of what they don't have I.e no roast pork and "coffee machine not working, but we can do instant", I'd have preferred to cook at home.

Hello, the pub was quiet. Food was ok but service was incredibly slow for all courses, we were there over 2.5 hours just for mains and desserts. Coffees for 8 people all came out one at a time with a wait in between. We asked for some extra gravy with our roast dinners and were very surprised to see we’d been charged £6 for it. Never experienced being charged for extra gravy anywhere before. Also very happy to pay a tip but 12.5% added to the bill we felt was a bit much.

We ate from the set menu. I would highly recommend the Halloumi sticks, they were delicious. The service was friendly and we enjoyed our evening!

The food today was less than mediocre, I'm sure nothing was fresh, limp vegetables Yorkshire puddings flat, but edible. The eating area was colder than outside which wasn't great, but we made the most of it! Gone the days of fresh roasts from Andy Singers days!!! 1 star for the food because it was edible, 5 stars for the service, I think her name was Anabel, in fact the guy behind the bar was also good. 3 stars for atmosphere just because of sentimental reasons. To The White Horse Manager, please sort this out, don't do Sunday lunch if it's not all fresh, it certainly was disappointing today, and I know you can do better. Oh and tge kitchen staff should be dressed appropriately, not in shorts, just my opinion. Last thing, the menu was rather short because you had run out of, new potatoes. steak and vegetarian options. •

Such a shame as used to really like this pub. Very quiet for a Sunday. Slow to receive starters, which were ok. Patatas Bravas was not patatas bravas. Just potatoes with some paprika sprinkled on. Roast dinners were average. Beef over cooked. Cauliflower cheese (maybe half a floret each). Worst dish of all was the nachos. Sour cream was not sour cream and the salsa was just like tomato ketchup with some vinegar in! Hardly any chilli topping. Nice staff but sorry won’t be back.

2.5 stars overall. Half the food items missing (one chef) so we were left with soup, hummus or chicken for starters… by two thirty there was no beef and only 2 pork left meaning people would have chicken for starter and main - no warning in advance which is what annoyed me abit as their website advertises the best Sunday lunch ever. Starters delish but mains very disappointing. Service was alright. Busy and understaffed but could’ve been better

I ordered the Vegan Sunday roast which I really enjoyed. All of the vegetables were really well seasoned and cooked perfectly, however the main part of my meal was completely cold. After notifying the team they quickly resolved the issue and applied a discount to my bill. The food was delicious and the garden is lovely, so I would definitely return in the future.
