While you dine on VU’s healthy and delicious cuisine, take in VU’s views and listen to the music as your senses luxuriate: sounds, sights, tastes, and smells. The spirit is refreshed, relaxed, and renewed. Romance is always in the air at the VU. VU is the ideal place for an intimate night of love’s silent splendor or the celebration of marriages, birthdays, and special events for families and business. VU needs no excuse to have a party. As the sundown breezes blow, the patio cools down. Choose a quiet table for two at the shaded far end of the patio or a larger center table, joining in the fun and conversation as the artists play requests and create a running dialog with the customers. In the winter months a fire pit and heaters warm up the patio. With the lights of Tempe and Phoenix sparkling, you are removed and above it all. VU welcomes any event, family or business.

My husband and our friends made the mistake of trying this restaurant for a second time. The first visit was horrible but the second was worse. We had the same waitress both times but did not know that she was actually the owner. Sloppy looking and rude. Wouldn't offer any assistance with anything and when my friend's salmon came overcooked and she reminded the owner that she had requested it less done. The owner mimicked her. My friend has health issues and it was very difficult for her to express what she needed and the owner was so insulting. My husband who is dealing with 3 types of cancer called the owner out on it. As we were leaving, the owner and a man we had not seen before cornered us in the parking lot. The man screamed obscenities at us and threatened to beat the "S#!+" our of my ill husband and break him in two. They screamed at us, pounded our car, wouldn't let us back out of the parking lot...we did call the police and filed a report. The officers went to the restaurant and talked to the owner and man. The officer then said we could have the man arrested on three charges but we chose to not pursue it. My husband's health will not tolerate this type of toxicity. The VU is slowly going under, you can see it and we now know why...Nobody should have to pay for an experience like this...I'd rather walk down Van Buren at 2 o'clock in the morning by myself than ever return to this restaurant.

I was with a large party; when the first of us arrived, one of the servers seated us at a table for 10 for a party with a reservation. Our friend asked the server multiple times if that was correct, because we had been told that we did not have a reservation. Each time the server indicated that if there was a mistake, they'd adjust. We submitted and received our drink orders and were perusing the menu in order to place our orders for dinner. As it turns out, we were seated at the wrong table; this was the fault of the restaurant. They're adjustment was not to either a) pull other tables together for the actual party of 10, or b) to politely apologize and ask us if we minded moving, and then quickly set-up another table for our party. We had to move our own glasses, menus, etc. and find enough chairs to put around the new table so we could all sit down. When the owner came to the table after we moved (and expressed our dissatisfaction when we were asked if everything is okay), we were given a classic conditional blame-shifting non-apology: "I'm sorry if you feel dissatisfied with our service, and had to move 2 feet to another table." The owner was very condescending to some of the ladies in our party, and even accused one of being sarcastic, when we indicated that a drink we hadn't ordered may have belonged to the other large party. She expressed absolutely no remorse and took no responsibility for the errors she and her staff made in seating us where they did in the first place, and refused when we asked for a different server to help us (before we knew that she was actually the owner). This attitude is well-reflected in her responses to other reviews, and I expect that if she chooses to respond to this review it will be more of the same. Needless to say, we paid for our drinks, left NO tip on the table, and left the restaurant. The view was fantastic, but nothing is worth the way that we were treated.

Could be a beautiful restaurant but need more staff and looking out on the view you see dead plants, a dirty patio and dirty old furniture.we wanted to eat there but had drinks only as after viewing the surroundings and experiencing the lack of help, we knew it would be a bad idea.alsoon a Saturday night ,no livemusic.its a shame as with proper management and care,it could be classy place.

I'm never impressed with the service at Vu Cafe, but the food and the scenic view can't be beat. If the waitress (who always seems to be there and wait on my party when I visit) could just act as if she enjoys her job a bit more and would check back with her parties more frequently, it would make for a much more pleasant dining experience.

We had a confirmed reservation for 2 for Mother's Day May 14 at 4pm. We made our plans for the day around this reservation. When we arrived at the restaurant at 3:45 there was a closed sign by the front door. We waited until 4pm and nothing changed. Very disappointing.

Stunning view ... shockingly terrible service. It is such a shame that this restaurant cannot manage to improve the service after all this time. The food is ok, but the view is what people come here for. The problem is that the staff CANNOT get their act together. They seem to try, but ... let me count the issues ... nothing major, just annoying. 1) Table wasn't set for 15 minutes after we sat down. 2) We asked twice for waters and finally got them after we had been there 30 minutes. 3) We asked for menus for our guests who hadn't arrived yet and were told that they would not bring the menus until the other guests arrived. What's up with that? 4) Our soda water was flat. 5) One guest received her salad without the salmon on top which she ordered. 6) The meals come out one at a time with quite a wait in between, so the first person who gets food waits for about 15 minutes. 7) They brought the wrong bill to our table. 8) Be prepared to WAIT. I realize this is a nice place to linger, but the service is SLOW, SLOW. 9) Our pizza was way over cooked ... burnt on the edges. 10) Maybe if we all stop going to this restaurant, they will have to change.

I'm a big fan of supporting local; however, most of the reviews I read commented on poor service. And it's true - the service sucked - no other word for it. Having said that, the food was very good and the menu was interesting. The view is exceptional - although a little trash cleanup would be in order. One waitress could simply care less and that leaves the others overwhelmed. They simply need a better system - actually, any system would help. However, like I said go - the food is very good. On Friday evening and perhaps Saturday evening (we were there on a Friday), they have live music that is very good and does not disrupt conversation.
