Vespaio Restaurant is one of the original South Congress eateries and remains one of Austin's favorite Italian go-to's among locals and visitors. This casual dinner venue is a popular choice for date nights or evenings out with friends, seating every day at 5pm. The interior of Vespaio Restaurant is decorated with ceiling tiles, ceiling plans, vintage pendant lighting, classic table seating, a plethora of wine racks and vibrant accent walls.In addition to a full bar menu, Vespaio Restaurant offers a lengthy selection of mouth-watering and flavorful authentic Italian dishes. Menu items include carpaccio, mixed seafood stew, lasagna, mussels, calamari, spaghetti carbonara, chocolate hazelnut cake, panna cotta and green pasta with shrimp. Everything on the menu is sourced locally and prepared in-house, including the pasta, bread and pastries.

    Vespaio is a restaurant we have frequented many times in the past. I spent my last birthday there in December 2023, that was also a wonderful evening. It was amazing, our waitress was delightful and knew the menu and the chef created specials backwards and forwards! The food was excellent. It was a wonderful experience.

    The food is tasty, innovative, and rich (option for smaller portions for the pastas). The service is friendly and attentive but not intrusive. The restaurant is busy and not quiet, but the room in the front on the left is good for smaller parties of 4-7 because you can still have conversation above the background noise. This is my third visit to Vespaio, and I plan to return for their fresh, rich, innovative Italian dishes. Note: the entree sizes are huge and shareable.

    Our anticipation for dining at Vespaio was high, but the experience fell short. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the cocktails—Vespa and Billy Ray Valentine—were expertly crafted. However, the wine selection was underwhelming; a comparable alternative to our chosen wine did not meet expectations, reinforcing my preference for new world wines. ANTIPASTI: The Burrata and Suppli were flavorful and worth recommending, setting an optimistic tone for the meal. INSALATE: The Caesar salad was flavorless, with grocery store bottled dressing tasting better. The Golden Beet Carpaccio was good but unremarkable. PRIMI: The Ravioli filled with Caramelized Onion & Reggiano Cheese was overly salty but manageable. The Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe was so salty my wife couldn’t eat it, and the replacement was bland and lifeless. SECONDI: The Risotto del Giorno was wet instead of creamy, and the beef lacked the tenderness of Wagyu. The Gulf Shrimp Scampi was overpoweringly funky, tasting of the worst parts of the gulf rather than fresh ocean flavors. While the staff was friendly, but the dishes, though ambitious, were beyond the kitchen’s ability to execute. Vespaio shows potential, but our experience fell far below expectations.

    Loved the restaurant. Live in Houston. Been here a few years ago. Wanted to come again and it did not disappoint. Server recommended a wine which was great. D’Angelo Agnialico. Found it online and ordering a case. We had green salad, shrimp scampi, cacio e pepi, all very good. Bread was also very good. Warm ambience.

    Everything about our experience was phenomenal. We were celebrating a birthday and the entire staff signed a birthday card and had it waiting on the table when we arrived. The food was outstanding and our server was super attentive and a joy to experience. Already planning our next trip back to Austin just for this restaurant

    The food is amongst the best available in Austin. Not just one or two dishes. ANYTHING they have on the menu. Our waiter, Sam, was amazing. Personable attentive and expert on the food and wine choices. Many place in Austin are pricey without the quality to back it up, Vespaios isn’t one of those.
