About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Fancy
  • Good for business meals
Vernick Fish presents Philadelphia’s own, Chef Greg Vernick’s exploration beyond the boundaries of a seafood restaurant. His ingredient-driven cooking style, paired with a love for global flavors, results in an inventive menu of fish and shellfish dishes, and a range of vegetable preparations. Taking a detailed, seasonal, and sustainable approach with small and large plate offerings, the kitchen brings new life to the favorite hallmarks of American oyster bar fare and raw bar. Complementing the experience are well-crafted cocktails, and a focused wine list of seafood-friendly white and sparkling offerings, as well as light, fresh reds.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Greg Vernick and CDC David Paterniti

From the OpenTable editors: Sleek interiors meet thoughtful service at this celebratory Logan Square seafood spot. James Beard Award-winning chef Greg Vernick walks the line between innovative and nostalgic with dishes like sardines on sourdough toast and grilled scallops that are masterclasses in careful sourcing and precise preparation, but also wipe-your-plate-clean delicious. If you’re toasting to something special, get one of the hard-to-find spirits or wines from the top-notch drinks program.

The oysters were very good. The red snapper ceviche lacked flavor. The black sea bass was cooked nicely but the rock shrimp were so small as to be unnoticed and added nothing to the dish. The broth although flavorful was salty. The fluke with the lobster imperial was very disappointing. Not sure where the lobster was but lots of breading was there. The server was nice. The acoustics very loud.

The food was excellent. Seating at the kitchen counter was interesting and comfortable. Sides of crispy potatoes and cauliflower were tasty, the octopus small plate was excellent and so were the scallops. The service was polite but uninterested and the not yet finished plates were taken away in a hurried and unpleasant way surprising both dinners.

Incredible experience - proud to have this place in our town, can't believe it took us so long to get here. We had an assortment of raw plates (including oysters) and small plates to share things and try a lot, it was definitely the way to go for us. Red snapper ceviche and the yellowtail crudo were standouts, could have eaten them all day - bright, complex and delicious. Everything we tried was absolutely wonderful, but also interesting and innovative. Drinks were great and perfectly accompanied our meal. The key lime pie was excellent. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and everyone is great. We are going to come back for special occasions again for sure, it's exciting that the menu changes so often! Thank you to the team at Vernick Fish for creating such a memorable experience.

Excellent meal. Attentive service. An army of staff but quiet and efficient. High ceiling so noise level a little higher than average but not a problem for conversation. The smaller tuna appetizer was excellent. Shrimp cocktail by the piece but a cool presentation of an old idea. The sea bass was outstanding. This is an example of how Philly is rapidly becoming a restaurant destination.

Great bartender, sat us according to our reservation time. Oysters were tasty and salty, octopus was perfectly charred, and the branzino was delicious and plated so well!

Had dinner last night at Vernick Fish… our first time there. I’ve always heard wonderful things about it and it did not disappoint!! Our server was incredible with his service and his fabulous recommendations. We had something from the raw menu, one small plate and two large for the two of us and it was more than enough. Definitely a place for special occasions as it is pricey, but so worth it!
