They charge the absolute top rate for their food and the food tastes good, but there were many problems with the check in experience, server knowledge of the menu/bar offerings, and overall service which I will explain, but first. The lighting. No good interior designer would suggest putting 5000k lighting (chandeliers) nest to 3000k lighting (sconces/others) it looks mismatched. Now as we arrive, and they know in advance that this dinner is for my father’s 60th birthday. They did absolutely no prep for our arrival. Our reservation was set for 7 and we arrived at 6:52 to a nearly empty house, then were made to stand around for the full 8 minutes before they sat us at a corner table in a completely empty dining room. Why did we wait? Why did you ask ahead if it’s a special event to only do absolutely nothing for our arrival. For reference, when I’ve eaten at a place that’s ~$150-$200 per person before and mentioned something like “oh it’s my gf’s birthday” when making the reservation. They have started us with a complimentary glass of champagne at our arrival. It’s so easy and cost efficient yet makes the experience x50 better from the start. Then throughout the meal there were multiple instances of the wait staff not knowing what liquor they carry, what the ingredients were on the menu. For instance I ordered a piccata sauce for my veal and the waitress thought I had wanted to sub my veal for chicken bc she didn’t know the difference between piccata and pollo. I also asked if they could make an affogato and was told yes, only to realize that when she said she had gelato, what she actually had was Italian ice. Irreconcilably different. So did they remove it from the bill?? Well idk because they didn’t give me an itemized receipt, what I got was a grand total and that’s it. I paid and gave enough of a tip to regret it later (also didn’t want to take money from the many people who rely on those tips) but I will not be returning to this restaurant. This is clearly the most elegant restaurant in the Tampa Bay area with exceptional, authentic Italian food. The extensive menu has something for everyone. The portions are generous and served appropriately to enjoy each special sauce. Service was superior to any other Tampa Bay Area restaurant. There are many seating options including outdoor, main dining room, bar area with live music at the perfect volume (can eat at bar or tables in the bar area). Dress up or business casual. Ordered my filet medium; arrived RARE… had to send back because I couldn’t eat it raw like that and instead of making me a new steak they just re-cooked the same one which for a steak that cost $75 for 8 ounces, they should cook you a new steak and cook it properly. It also completely lacked seasoning. The other three meals were cooked to proper temperature but also lacked seasoning. For a restaurant commanding premium pricing, all meals should have been perfect.1 person found this helpful

Valentino‘s is trying to do a nice job of creating an elegant Italian dining experience. Unfortunately, it comes off as a bit contrived, from the reception staff wearing short gold chain mail dresses to the young girl in the super short feathered skirt, pushing around the champagne cart. Our server was very nice and worked hard to make our experience a good one. He was still a little rough around the edges for a fine dining experience, but I have faith he will get there. We had the Caprese salad and the arugula salad, both of which were very good, especially the caprese. The arugula was very tart and tasty, but huge. For entrées, we had the fish stew and the grouper Livorno. The fish stew had good flavor, but had lots of calamari rings, although a good assortment of fish and shellfish. The grouper was just strange. It was a very nice portion of fish, but the red sauce they described was kind of a blood red gravy covering the fish and entire plate, with some capers and olives in it. Nothing eke on the plate, but a side of vegetables and mushrooms on a separate plate.  I expected a lot of flavor, but it was actually a little bland. The gravy overall was just offputting. I should note that the pasta dishes coming out looked really good, although they did not have a primi portion of pasta, which would have been nice. My advice would be to dial back the glam a little bit and deliver fine dining level service with some refinement to the menu. Lots of potential, but we will give it a while before we try it again.Is this helpful?
