Tujague's is the second oldest restaurant in New Orleans. This French Quarter institution has been serving traditional New Orleans cuisine to locals and visitors alike for more than 160 years.

Lore states that brunch originated here, as did the Grasshopper cocktail. Homages to the restaurant's long and colorful history abound within the interior of the building from the classic 19th century architecture to memorabilia on the walls.

Menu items such as the seared gulf fish and the daily gumbo meld French traditions with New Orleans fare and flare. Our famous five course menu is still served nightly; but have no fear, the menu is no longer pre-fixe, so those less ravenous diners can join in too.

If you want a quintessential New Orleans experience filled with history and local fare, Tujague's is your place.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Gus Martin

From the OpenTable editors: It’s the second-oldest restaurant in New Orleans, with the claim to fame of inventing brunch—and some even say it’s haunted. Welcome to Tujague’s, founded by French immigrants in 1856, and still letting the good times roll for more than 160 years. Today it’s a slice of history in the French Quarter, filled with mirrors, chandeliers, and a collection of 6,000 mini liquor bottles. Don’t miss the spicy shrimp remoulade, boiled brisket, and grasshopper cocktail, another house original.

Unfortunately a horrendous meal. Service by Lance was great, but oysters fully inedible (waaay overcooked), soup came out cold, and had to send back both fish entrees as cold as well. Desert was also pretty bad. I get that this was a holiday, but just horrible food.

My husband and I tried the reveillon dinner on Christmas Eve. The restaurant itself is beautiful and inviting - clearly they preserved the historical nature of the building while updating the decor with a modern twist. We sat on the second floor - the noise level was moderate and the servers were attentive. The grasshopper drink, which they are the originators of - was awesome! The main issue I had was with the main course of the prefix menu - I had the short rib with polenta and was ultimately disappointed with how it turned out. It came out cold - the polenta was chunky but more importantly the short rib was not tender at all - quite difficult to cut into. I thought it was just me however I overhear another patron make a similar comment to a waitress. I appreciate them being open for Christmas Eve, but I left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed with the experience for the price we paid.

Very, very disappointed. Food quality was extremely poor. BBQ shrimp and braised short rib was seriously the worst meal I’ve ever had in New Orleans…. bland, no flavor….

Excellent food and outstanding service! We had the Revillion menu. The Hurricane cocktail was well crafted. The oyster appetizer and goat cheese crepe and shrimp crepe were wonderful. Our entrees of short ribs with polenta and gulf fish almondine were delicious. The gingerbread blondie was different and tasty. Our table on the upper floor was cozy and pleasant. There was also a beautifully decorated tree.

Had reservations at 7:45pm and the food seemed to just be warmed up not fresh, the dessert was burnt, we were seated in a small kitchen like room which was quiet but the chairs were very uncomfortable to sit in. The server was amazing and did the best she could.

First time at Tujaque’s at their new location and might be the last. I read previous reviews but wanted to give it a shot anyway. The ambiance and decor are fine. Mixed reviews on the food. Gumbo and scallops were good. Mushroom crepe was just okay. Pork shank way overcooked and I probably should have sent it back. Chicken was very dry and bland. Bread pudding was good and thankfully not microwaved. Cobbler was just okay. They were out of Pot de Crème. We were a party of six so maybe that’s why we had two servers. I think that server setup might cause too much confusion. Initially brought the wrong wine which was a recommended pairing on the menu. Also completely forgot the baked oysters. Service was friendly but just not on par with what the restaurant is trying to be in my opinion. Not sure we’ll be back. Too many other restaurants at the same price point. Nothing was great and that’s the problem here.

I normally don't leave negative reviews. Maybe it was just a one off experience, but the food was okay, drinks were not good, the service was poor. We had several different servers. We asked for refills of bread and water and never received it. The food was okay but not for the price value. The turtle soup lacked flavor-maybe because they never offered the sherry to top. They also took my spoon away and we couldn't get anyones attention to get a new one. My soup was cold by the time I was able to eat it (by acquiring it from another table). The grasshopper tasted more like mouthwash (and yes I've had grasshoppers and love them). Appetizers were okay: boudin balls and the mushroom crepe. The main course was pretty flavorful but by that time we were ready to go. The steak medium rare was the only item I didn't regret. The potatoes had potential (a bit hard) and tomatoes were flavorful. I don't mind paying money for a good meal. This just wasn't one of those. We had 6 people leave with the same thought: one we've crossed off the list of places to try.

I went there with a family member visiting New Orleans for the first time. I found a rubber band on my broccoli. That kind of killed the mood of the dinning experience. They gave me credit for my meal only. Still the credit for the meal did not resuscitate our feelings. I hope they do better next time.
