Tujague's is the second oldest restaurant in New Orleans. This French Quarter institution has been serving traditional New Orleans cuisine to locals and visitors alike for more than 160 years.

Lore states that brunch originated here, as did the Grasshopper cocktail. Homages to the restaurant's long and colorful history abound within the interior of the building from the classic 19th century architecture to memorabilia on the walls.

Menu items such as the seared gulf fish and the daily gumbo meld French traditions with New Orleans fare and flare. Our famous five course menu is still served nightly; but have no fear, the menu is no longer pre-fixe, so those less ravenous diners can join in too.

If you want a quintessential New Orleans experience filled with history and local fare, Tujague's is your place.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Gus Martin

From the OpenTable editors: It’s the second-oldest restaurant in New Orleans, with the claim to fame of inventing brunch—and some even say it’s haunted. Welcome to Tujague’s, founded by French immigrants in 1856, and still letting the good times roll for more than 160 years. Today it’s a slice of history in the French Quarter, filled with mirrors, chandeliers, and a collection of 6,000 mini liquor bottles. Don’t miss the spicy shrimp remoulade, boiled brisket, and grasshopper cocktail, another house original.

I’m an Atlantan who loves and visits New Orleans as often as I can. The mushroom and goat cheese crepes are one of my go-to apps for dinner and a must every time I’m visiting. For brunch, the French toast here is quite literally the best I’ve ever had. The turtle soup and gumbo are both delicious. I haven’t tried anything here I didn’t like. Cheers and enjoy! Thank you, Tujague’s for hosting me once again. Already looking forward to next time!

Old Nola gem! Attentive service, good ambiance and tasty food. The bananas foster pain perdu with added fried chicken was outstanding! Be sure to sip a grasshopper when there. The grasshopper icecream is phenomenal.

This place is not what it used to be and definitely does not live up to its past reputation. My parents had their first date here so Tujagues has held a place in my heart for years. Our parents brought us here 22 years ago and the food was amazing. I also visited 10 years ago and again, had an amazing meal. Last night was a disappointment on many levels. The new location lacks the charm of the original location. But I was hoping the food would help overcome the let down. The gumbo was still good and the Crab Au Gratin was ok. The cocktails were also good. However service was exceptionally slow, our dinner took 20 or more minutes to arrive and when it did everything was cold. The grits were lumpy and chewy. My son’s steak was blue. Not rare, raw. And everything was cold. We left without eating. The manager removed our meals from our tab but honestly the whole meal should have been comped. My heart is a little broken over what has become of this place.

We had a fantastic time. The wait staff were attentive and entertaining. The food and cocktails were outstanding. And they accommodated our party of 12 with ease. I would love to come back again and I highly recommend it.

So, I decided to take the plunge and propose to my girlfriend at Tujague's Restaurant. The atmosphere was perfect, the food was incredible, and I was pretty sure she was going to say yes. My waiter, Victor, was fantastic. Polite and funny—everything was going so smoothly… until the moment I popped the question. She looked at me, looked at the ring, and then put down her spoon she was using to eat her turtle soup (delish!)… well, let’s just say my knee didn’t get the ‘yes’ it was hoping for. In fact, I think I wasn’t going to have the great evening later at the hotel either now. I was going to order a dessert with whipped cream for some fun but no. At least I didn’t faint. Silver linings. But here's the thing: The team at Tujague's couldn’t have been more supportive. They didn’t make me feel like a failure and called me big guy and patted my back every time they walked by. The chef even sent over an extra dessert (without whipped cream) to “help me recover”. In the end, we shared a laugh, finished our meal, and both agreed on a "maybe" next time. Tujague's? A+ for ambiance, food, and making an awkward moment feel slightly less awkward. I’ll be back—just maybe not for another proposal. Also with a blonde next time🙌🏽
