Tujague's is the second oldest restaurant in New Orleans. This French Quarter institution has been serving traditional New Orleans cuisine to locals and visitors alike for more than 160 years.

Lore states that brunch originated here, as did the Grasshopper cocktail. Homages to the restaurant's long and colorful history abound within the interior of the building from the classic 19th century architecture to memorabilia on the walls.

Menu items such as the seared gulf fish and the daily gumbo meld French traditions with New Orleans fare and flare. Our famous five course menu is still served nightly; but have no fear, the menu is no longer pre-fixe, so those less ravenous diners can join in too.

If you want a quintessential New Orleans experience filled with history and local fare, Tujague's is your place.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Gus Martin

From the OpenTable editors: It’s the second-oldest restaurant in New Orleans, with the claim to fame of inventing brunch—and some even say it’s haunted. Welcome to Tujague’s, founded by French immigrants in 1856, and still letting the good times roll for more than 160 years. Today it’s a slice of history in the French Quarter, filled with mirrors, chandeliers, and a collection of 6,000 mini liquor bottles. Don’t miss the spicy shrimp remoulade, boiled brisket, and grasshopper cocktail, another house original.

Very disappointing for our family Christmas dinner. We were sat upstairs which felt like the kids table at Thanksgiving. We could easily see into their staging area with tables clothes on the floor, dirty dishes piled in the hallway, etc. They should have put up a screen or something so we couldn't see into the very very messy room. Our waiter seemed very inexperienced and overwhelmed. He was dripping with sweat and would reach over us to put things on the table instead going to the person the item was intended for. The food was mediocre. The gumbo was like broth and not thick. We were later told half the kitchen staff had walked out that evening. After waiting 2 hours for our main course the waiter said they would comp our food 50% and he had lost our order. This was a preset dinner menu with only 4 main course choices so it shouldn't have been so difficult. After waiting close to 2.5 hours for our food we asked for a free meal and drinks which they granted. Very disappointing for a restaurant recommended by Southern Living and NOLA travel websites.

Took a little while to actually order our meal but once we ordered our meal it was delicious. Smaller on the portion size for the Christmas menu but was delicious!!! Our wait staff that was 2 really great young women and two young men that helped serve and clean plates on the 2nd floor that were fantastic!!!!

We waited 30 minutes for water, then after our first course we waited almost 2 hours for our main meal. Everything came out cold, and the food was relatively bland. In total we were there for almost 3 and a half hours for three courses. It was the worst service I’ve ever experienced. Our waiter seemed to be actively avoiding us. An unfortunate Christmas meal. We were comped on the meal, so I appreciate the manager for that, but this was a very poor experience.

This restaurant might actually be good usually, but it was Christmas and very crowded and very disappointing. The gumbo was very good, but was served lukewarm. The braised ribs were overcooked and the polenta was lumpy. The menu stated that the duck confit came with sausage and lamb, but it was served only with sausage. When I asked the server about it, she went to ask the kitchen, and came back and told me that the dish was only flavored with lamb. Hmmm. Couldn’t get any bread until the meal was almost over. My husband’s second glass of wine wasn’t served until after he was done with his meal. Perhaps the most egregious was the size of the fish fillet they served my brother in law. He hardly had any food to eat. The restaurant should be ashamed of themselves. I sure wouldn’t go back.

The holidays are a hard time for any restaurant. Tujague included. We waited 15-20 minutes for a table despite having a reservation. The following is about their prefix Christmas Day menu: Our salads with radicchio had no radicchio and had mixed greens instead. The gumbo was watery. The short rib was over cooked, the pork was not good and the fish was full of bones (also the portion was tiny compared to everything else). Oh and the bread pudding was hard and flavorless. No one in our table and even our whole floor managed to eat more than half of it. The vibe was: there is the food, do whatever you want with it, like it or not, who cares. I will say our server was kind but overwhelmed and scattered.

We were there for the special Christmas night dinner. My husband ordered a martini and it came in a small water class, no martini glass and it appeared to be just about an inch of gin. I opted for the wine pairing, which on the menu posted on line was for 5 courses for $45 but I was charged $53 for a 3 course pairing. My first course was an arugula salad that was good and my husband had the gumbo, which was also good I had the short ribs with polenta. The beef was tasty but the polenta was very bland and tasteless. My husband opted for the duck confit and he was disappointed in the dish. He found it uninspiring for the price. The bread pudding was good. The service was good but we found the food and drink to be lacking and not a good value for $67 a meal. But the choices for dining on Christmas Day in the French Quarter were limited and we considered ourselves lucky to have an upscale option.

Gumbo was roux only and lacked any noticeable meat of any kind. The short rib seemed as if it was left under a heating lamp for too long. Service was beyond subpar. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and blame it on the holidays. I’ve really enjoyed this place in the past.

Our waiter was very nice. The restaurant was a little chaotic- mix ups with people’s reservations and our food order. The food was good but not what we expected for the price.

The food was delicious and the environment was relaxing. However, service was incredibly slow. Several tables that were seated after us were served first. Further, none of the waitresses seemed to be able to answer questions about the menu. Be prepared to spend two and a half hours in the dining room.

Unfortunately our family Christmas meal was ruined by a wait person who brought us the wrong meal twice, dropped silverware on my daughter and not asking everyone at the table for drinks. In addition, no one asked if we wanted refills on drinks and the service was extremely slow.
