Tonari is our Wafu Italian restaurant. WAFU means Japanese-style, so our menu is a Japanese take on Italian food. It originated in Japan through the love that the Japanese had for Italian food but wanted to incorporate some of their cultural flavors and ingredients to them. We at Daikaya Group and chef & owner, Katsuya Fukushima, are bringing this experience to you here in DC.

Looking for some fun Japanese antipasti bites, one of a kind pasta dishes, or pizza that you won't find anywhere else in the city? Then come join us for dinner, we look forward to having you soon.

The pork bao, anarizushi, and octopus were excellent. The monster pasta was delicious. The pizza crust is thick but very light and very tasty. Great place to eat before an event at Capital One. There were two kids ages 10 and 14 in our party and they enjoyed the food.

Pizza was soggy, pasta isn’t fresh. Unsure why the corn pizza is so popular, it was not good

Winter Restaurant Week menu was great for the value. For an 11 person party, waitress was on top of it.

Had the restaurant week menu. For apps, the white bean soup > the tofu bagna cauda; the bagna cauda was interesting as a fusion of cuisines but the flavor profile didn't really make sense. Due to a mixup, pizzas came before the pasta. The gorgonzola pizza & marinara were both super tasty but $6 for optional pepperoni on top of a $55 Restaurant Week menu that's primarily pizza & pasta w/o meat is insane. Spice level on gorgonzola + pistachios made for a super interesting flavor profile and it was tasty--best part of the meal and would absolutely order again. The spaghetti & Alfredo had great presentation and perfect texture but both were lacking in taste --although the flavor profile of the Alfredo was great just needed more seasoning. And again, a $6 upcharge for 3 meatballs option feels like a bad joke. Great desserts (poached figs & grapes in some kind of cream sauce). They were small which is fine for RW, but they were unique and delicious. Although if you don't like a cold cream + fruit dessert then it's not for you. Was super excited to come here for restaurant week as a bday dinner, but the experience left some to be desired. Not sure the restaurant week is a balance of value/variety/quality, but the regular menu seems to give customers more freedom to experience the wafu-italian & japanese cuisine concept while still getting value for their $$. Shoutout to Melissa our server for holding down all of the upstairs dining room w/ 2 big parties!

Came here for the restaurant week option. Portions were on the smaller side for the price, but tasty nonetheless.

The least impressive RW experience I've ever had. The Japanese fusion aspect seemed to be missing from my spaghetti marinara and slice of pizza. The courses were uninventive, unimpressive, and not well executed. My dessert was CURDLED. The server was friendly enough, but sprinting between tables as she seemed to be the only server on the first floor, so not terribly attentive, but I don't hold that against her as they were clearly short staffed.

The food was too spicy. I specifically asked for recommendations for not spicy food. The suggested item - Gorgonzola pizza - was extremely over spiced. The opinion was confirmed by fellow diners. If you like spicy food this in your place. I am not going back. The drinks were good
