    I went to dinner there on a Wednesday night. I was the only diner there! The owner was the one who took my order and we chatted about a bit about the place. She said that she named it "tomate-chocolate" to reflect the fact that the tomato and chocolate are the two most important foods that the world inherited from Mexico. The menu has a good number of vegetarian options--I had the enchilada with spinach, rice, and mushroom with red sauce, which was very good. I also had a pina colada like drink with mezcal, which was alright. The setting is quite nice and quiet.

    Food was excellent and unusual! We have not come across many of the dishes before (after seven visits to Oaxaca). A unique guacamole with plantain. Amazing shrimp ceviche! Main dishes excellent as well. Service was very slow but it was New Year’s Day and they were extremely short staffed. But the wait was well worth it. We’ll be back!!

    No nos quedamos ya que parecía un lugar muy improvisado. Había solamente un mesero que no tenía conocimiento de si había vino o no, luego una persona que estaba en una mesa fue a mostrarnos los 3 vinos que tenía pero no nos quisieron vender por copeo. El lugar es lindo pero no nos dio confianza la falta de seriedad.

    Highly recommend Tomate Chocolate! Charming and relaxed. Loved eating on the outdoor patio. Our waiter made our guacamole table-side with the added bonus of chopped fried plantains, which enhanced it with sweetness and texture. Nice cocktails. We also welcomed having some vegetarian options for our daughter. Everything is was delicious, including some new dishes like the Garnachas Istmenas and Cochinita Pibil. And refreshing to go out away from the busy Centro.

    We ate our Christmas lunch here in a leafy quiet courtyard, it was delightful. Lovely, helpful staff and good and Interesting food. Wonderful, smoky, mescal cocktails.

    Food is fantabulous. Service was friendly and attentive. Nice outdoor patio. Did I mention the food? And the cocktails were outstanding.
