Pretty space but the best thing about our food was the crockery it was served on. The bread used for the tea sandwiches was either stale or wet and mushy. And the savory fillings were odd combinations (anchovies and pimento?) or so bland as to be tasteless. At its best a proper English high tea is an art form of delicate, flavorful tidbits beautifully presented. At lease they got good marks for presentation. The rest of a pantomime of bad food and cold tea. Go to the Peninsula around the corner instead where they know how to do it properly.

A visual delight and very good food…. Which is why we again returned to the wonders of Kit Kemp…BUT I did not appreciate upon arrival being told I would have to vacate the table in 2 hours, and then being told a second time during the meal! After our brunch plates were cleared…I HAD TO CALL THE WAITER OVER AFTER 20 minutes of being ignored to get coffee and dessert.. if the maitre d’ is going to threaten you with “eviction” upon arrival then the wait staff should be more attentive.

This is second time I've gone to Whitby for high tea. First time, which was for 10 people, the service was excellent and we all had a good time. Second time was pleasant but different because the waiter wasn't efficient. We asked about getting extra caviar for tea service but he forgot to ask the manager what the cost would be. In the interim, 2 of us decided to and ordered the tea service with champagne (no caviar) plus tea service a glass of apple cider for the 3rd guest who doesn't drink alcohol. He forgot that we didn't order the service with the caviar and while we waiting for our food, came out to tell us they were out of caviar. Also, after over 15 minutes, had to remind him about the cider requested for 3rd guest.

There was a birthday party for a group of teenagers so it was LOUD. The noise level dropped considerably once they left. Scones are the best I’ve ever had and the sandwiches are the worst I’ve ever had. Can’t comment on dessert because I took it to go but I imagine they’re good. Service was meh- I’ve had better. Decor and ambience was nice but I just chose a bad time to go because of the party. They put the tea leaves in your pot of tea so that means by the time the pot is half empty you need a fresh pot because the remaining is over-steeped and undrinkable. Waste of tea in my opinion. There are many places in NY to enjoy afternoon tea and this is not one I’d recommend. I would probably have lunch there and ask if I could place an order for scones if I wanted it.
