Welcome to The Warren Restaurant, an extension of The Crowborough Estate, holding stock of Sussex Cattle, Boer Goats, Fallow deer, and Wild boar amongst others which the restaurant draws on for its menu. We are a Dog Friendly restaurant.

Given the provenance, the kitchen predominantly cooks British food, occasionally dipping into other cuisines to provide a vehicle for flavours – nettle gnocchi for example, or poached oyster with wild boar chorizo.

WE wanted a unique fun and informal restaurant, to offer their Crowborough Estate’s produce from. When the site of the renowned Signor Franco’s became available, with those iconic arched windows of its orangery and glorious terrace overlooking the Spa town, the stage was set.

Really odd place - from the tacky green lighting going up the stairs, to the strange vibe inside. The photos online look beautiful but it was freezing cold in the restaurant (on a Friday night), and the decor made it feel like we were in a themed medieval experience, rather than somewhere that actually looks nice and good quality. We were originally given just a wine by the bottle menu, and when we asked for cocktails and wine by the glass, the cocktail menu was extremely odd. They were inexplicably 80s themed and both of the ones we had tasted appalling, like they were made by someone who had never had a cocktail. There were also so many flowers in the drinks it looked really weird. The food was ok but service was really slow, and we were so cold we just wanted the food a bit quicker. Overall wouldn’t return, the food was worse than your average pub and the overall feel of the place was really off.

Terrible! Service was slow & didn’t know the set menu to help with choosing. I couldn’t stomach the starters of 3 venison meatballs. They had the texture of glue & in a sauce of sultanas which was revolving. The main course was horrible too. Hard cold Chicken stuffed with Haggis! Not detailed on the menu. I could eat it either. Venue was cold. Had to eat when I got home.

For us personally the food really wasn’t very good. I don’t want to say over priced as dining out is generally expensive anywhere I just think based on thier prices they think they are better than what they actually are. I’m not saying service or food was awful by any means it was all just lacking. sirloin Steak was cooked as asked but not a great bit of meat and the venison type stew really didn’t have anything special about it. I think it could’ve been any meat and I’d not have tasted different. Snails also were served in a very oily sauce that had little flavour. Like I say I’m not complaining as such but I don’t think I’d return based on this visit which is a shame as most reviews suggest this is a place to go for a nice meal

We were really excited to come to this restaurant as we had heard so many good things, and had loved the menu we had seen online. Firstly we were seated round the back instead of the beautiful main part of the restaurant that is showcased online, was looking forward to being seated under the chandeliers and having the view of their big beautiful windows. This was the first disappointment as we believed was just part of the experience but we got over it. The scallops starter was lacking a strong element to really balance the mild and delicate flavour of the scallops, there was some kind of salami but it didn’t add much. The pigeon was nice, but was disappointed to have to spit out two tiny bullets after taking a bite, they told us that is was as if we had found “a Pearl in a clam” but it just felt like a error that really should have been avoided for a restaurant with a Michelin star, and can’t say it didn’t hurt my tooth. We had the tomahawk steak for main and the steak was lovely but they had paired it with tenderstem broccoli and tater tots, instead of their AMAZING douphoine potatoes which we ordered for the side, as they would have been such a better alternative for a very expensive dish. We had the deep fried mars bar to finish that was delicious. We had a bottle of Argentinian Cabernet Franc and that was simply beautiful. Overall we were just a bit disappointed that our experience didn’t live up to our expectations and we can’t say we would spend the money to go again but we are glad that we can say that we have tried it.

I had heard great things about the Warren, but feel I maybe attended on an off day. Quiet Saturday lunch but service was very slow with people asking after food. There was only one waiter, who seemed a little out of his depth. Numerous things wrong with the order and drinks and all our sides were forgotten and then came out after we’d eaten the main. My partner enjoyed his main, but main was just okay. Slightly disappointing for a 40th birthday lunch.

The Warren is an aesthetically pleasing restaurant. The decor and wooden features gives it a cosy feel. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, but apart from 3 other tables the restaurant was empty and lacked atmosphere. Whilst the starters were varied, the mains didn't grab us so we ordered a starter to share before leaving to eat elsewhere. The starter we ordered was the slow cooked pork cheeks, which were deliciously tender and flavourful. The pork cheeks were sat on a sweet potato mash, but then the who dish was ruined by being smothered in a very dark and overpowering red wine sauce. We felt that The Warren has potential, but was let down by the menu, which could probably benefit from a revamp.
