We have a policy of ‘keeping it local’ and use local ingredients in our dishes and stock local wines and juices. Whether you choose to eat in the cosy, traditional front bar with its log fire and mullioned windows or the stunning light and open glass atrium we are sure you will enjoy your meal.

Good food, poor service. We were seated quickly on arrival and given a few minutes to look at the menu. When the waiter returned to take our order I politely enquired if the smoked bacon with the eggs benedict could be swapped for smoked salmon. I only made this request as smoked salmon and scrambled eggs was also on the menu so I did not think that it was asking a lot. The waiter replied to this request with a rather blunt 'no, i'm afraid not' with no explanation as to why. So in the end my partner ordered the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and I ordered the eggs benedict and we did the swap ourselves. Oh and I ordered a Bellini only to be told after 5 minutes of waiting that they did not have any peach juice. The food was good but i'm afraid that due to the unhelpful nature of the waiter the next time that we want to go somewhere for breakfast we will go somewhere else.

Very nice Roast dinner, had a few meals there now and always good, staff are ok but sometimes inconsistent. On the whole though a very nice pub with good food!!

As always, the food is the only thing that saves the three crowns. We visited for Sunday lunch and were sat with my elderly parents under a speaker in the restaurant that was blaring out Oasis. Not only was the music completely out of place in the restaurant but we had to ask to be moved as we couldn’t hear each other speak. We then waited half an hour for our food order to be taken and another half an hour for it to arrive. The level of service at the three crowns is pretty much nonexistent. Don’t get me wrong, the staff are all friendly but completely lack direction or leadership. Drinks take forever to arrive, empty tables are left laden with glasses and dirty plates, nobody appears to take ownership of their area of the restaurant and the whole place feels entirely rudderless.

We had Sunday roasts and we were all very impressed. Lovely food and very friendly service. Chagford is also very pretty and everyone seemed very friendly.

We had a disappointing experience at The Three Crowns when we visited for a Birthday meal which we booked via OpenTable, a note was to the booking which also asked whether we could be seated in the bar area. It seems this  was ignored as the bar area appeared full and we were seated in the conservatory which initially (7pm on the Sunday) was very noisy and echoey, however, this subsided fairly quickly as the place emptied. From about 8pm there was no atmosphere  as the only other remaining couple were on their phones with the only activity being the other diners filling past as and creating a cold blast as they exited. The food was nice, the soft-shelled crab was very good but the calamari had been over-salted. We both had the duck stir fry which was very tasty but had the consistency of a ragu. To crown the experience off, breakfast service was set up around us at 9pm so we decided to leave. Unfortunately, the meal was memorable for all the wrong reasons. I'm sure the staff were knackered at the end of a day's service but I would have hoped that we would have received a call/email had there not been availability in the bar area. The conservatory is pleasant in the summer and I'm sure we'll pop in again but I'd be wary of booking it for a special occasion without assurances.
