My third visit today wasn’t quite on par with visits 1&2, partly because they were busy. New server had to check with someone on every question. You do not get a choice of bread with your entree, like many other cafés offer. Sourdough is one of the breads offered but only with specific entrees or as a side order. They will not make substitutions. It’s good sourdough from Begonia Bakehouse, but a side order of plain sourdough here costs $8.50 - more than a full specialty loaf at Begonia.

This is my second visit this month. A great place for breakfast and lunch. Fresh, sustainable products, sourced from local farms and merchants. Many specialty items are crafted in house (sauces, pastries, etc.) and they partner with Begonia Bakehouse and others for sourdough and other breads. Their in-house cinnamon roll is unique and delicious. And I'm a sucker for bacon - theirs is terrific. Our server, Erica, was friendly and efficient, very knowledgable about the restaurant and the menu. The coffee was always hot and fresh brewed, even my decaf drip. They have nice decor, along with intentionally mis-matched cute vintage dishes. Washrooms were modern and clean. In fact, they had a recent renovation, converting their delivery and pick up business, V-Burger into a roomy, airy and light dining space for the Sweatered Hen. Zero complaints. Highly recommend!

It’s still the best brunch spot in town, but now that I’ve had dinner there, holy cow. The menu isn’t big but it’s fantastic. The cacio e pepe was the best I’ve had. Just go. Thursday to Saturday. Not open late but who cares?

It was not busy (seven people including ourselves of two), at all and it took forever to get our food and the waitress didn’t even come around to see if we wanted our coffee refilled until we were done our meal. The fried sourdough on the avocado toast was tough to cut, it would have been better to just toast the sourdough and the fried English muffin was tough too to cut. The taste for both was good though. I did however take one of my eggs Benedict home and asked for extra hollandaise sauce which I was fine to pay for, when I went to use it the next day, they gave me half and inch in a small container for $2.00. I don’t mind paying extra for certain add on’s but I was disgusted with the amount given and the price I paid for the wee bit. And don’t tell me that the cost has gone up that much for a coin size container and the sauce that $2.00 should be charged. I will give the place one more try and if it’s the same I won’t be going back.

Hi Jennifer, Thank you for your honest review, we appreciate it. We will improve our portion sizing for to-go hollandaise and have better quality control when toasting our bread products. We hope to see you again despite this, and that you have a much better experience. Thank you, The Sweatered Hen

Food and service were superb…best Eggs Benedict I have had….Hollandaise was prepared perfectly….my husband’s Poutine was delicious and unique and I will probably order it next time…..good coffee…..only issue was noise level, but it was Saturday brunch and a full house…..this won’t deter me from enjoying another meal at this restaurant
