Hiraeth; a term unique to Wales and Welsh culture, an intangible pull on the heart that conveys a deep sense of belonging, the desire to return to the place of one’s birth, to come home. For The Shed Restaurant and Executive Chef Jonathan Woolway, our place in the world is happily Swansea.
Composed along the expanse of Swansea Bay, flanked by the Gower Peninsula and Brecon Beacons, within striking distance of the fertile valleys, coastal plains and farmland of West Wales, the Waterfront City of Swansea sits at the beating heart of nature’s larder. Bounties of the season from land, sea and pasture are at our fingertips.
Our daily changing menus reflect a constant creative evolution, making use of local produce at the very place and moment of their seasonal prime. This begins in the kitchen and is realised at the table; Egalitarian, convivial and accessible to all. Full in heart and generous of spirit.

Was supposed to sit at 8pm.we sat at 8.50pm.i ordered a bottle of wine for table it didn't come.i had to ask 3 times starter and main meal was poor. Due to presentation and taste.service was rubbish and staff need retraining. Well over priced food was basic.i will never go there again.and if it carries on serving food like that it won't be long before it shuts

Easy to book & prompt communication about my son’s birthday Great service Despite having pared back decor , clever use of baffles meant it was not loud & echoey . And it was pleasantly warm Lovely food & great choice of wine Would recommend

Overall enjoyable and great to support a local chef. The service was great from the off with the maître d giving us a bright welcome and ensuring we had aperitifs quickly. She also explained the specials and answered a few culinary queries. The sommelier was great - attentive and helpful. The food was a slightly mixed bag - my husband’s crab pate was in his words “delicious”, our guest wasn’t sure about the soup and my beetroot, pickled walnut and blue cheese salad was generously proportioned and v nice. The hake with chard and aioli was delicious and again excellent portion. My husband enjoyed his Barnsley chop with accompaniments but our guests found the shared steak a little chewy in parts but again excellent sized portions. Dessert again was a slightly mixed bag - amazing cheese platter and the home made “crackers were amazing. My husband’s pear special was nice but he felt the pears were a little undercooked. My welsh cakes with whisky was delicious - freshly cooked welsh cakes with just the right amount of cinnamon and sugar. Crumble was v good according to our guests. So overall a really lovely evening - nice ambience and we’ll definitely return to try another range of dishes

After reading the outstanding review from the critics, sadly the food served was overall disappointing. I had the onglet beef which was reasonably well presented and tasted ok. My wife ordered two starters instead of a main - one, the crab was nice but the other, the potted venison was not - not only did It look unappetising, it did not taste of anything! I tried it and found the same. One of our friends had the Gower Barnsley Lamb chop which was acceptable, but the other had the Duck leg, which certainly was not , as it was undercooked. Best item On the menu was the serving of chips! The staff were certainly very friendly And looked after us very well. We felt rather uncomfortable for them when we expressed our views. In fact, they did not charge for the duck leg.
