Hawaii’s first and only Relais & Châteaux restaurant, The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea offers a 'culinary casual' experience with creative island-to-table cuisine. Menus are created around what is readily available from Maui’s farms and fisherman ensuring that each dish is prepared using only the finest local, seasonal and artisanal products; including those grown in the restaurant’s own orchard.

From its perch on the hillside above South Maui's Wailea resort area, the restaurant offers sweeping panoramic ocean views from the upper lanai and intimate dining under the stars in the garden. Voted one of OpenTable's Top 100 Most Romantic Restaurants in the US, and Top 10 Restaurants in Hawaii.

Sadly, this was not good. And it's been getting consistently worse over the last few years, until it culminated into this most recent meal. Which makes me sad, because this was one of my favorite restaurants on Maui. We had the tortellini appetizer, which was very good. We also had the Hamachi appetizer, which was good, but tiny. Then, it went downhill from there. The lamb was a blob of fat (even for lamb) and the meat parts were basically raw and flavorless. (And I am known for liking my meat very rare). The fish was cooked about 3 times too long and dry and awful. We didn't really eat either, yet nobody even asked us why we didn't eat our meals. (The waitress was generally nice and competent, but we didn't see her very often, and the secondary wait staff didn't really ask). Desserts were so-so. Not great (we didn't finish them either), but they were OK. So, very disappointing for a meal that costs you $500+ for two people. Mai Tais are great there. The setting is awesome, especially at sunset. But for what this costs (even by Maui standards) it just doesn't deliver anymore. I really wish they went back to a regular a-la-carte menu with the old food options they had. The menu hasn't changed in a long time as far as I can tell, and there really aren't that many good options on there. The view is still outstanding and so is the vibe of the hotel. But with this getting worse and worse, and with the Bird Cage also having changed their menu, it has, unfortunately, taken a turn for the worse :-(

I was very impressed by their sensitivity and creativity around their vegetarian options. I appreciate their efforts. Also, the sunset, the ambience and the service was amazing.

The view was very nice despite the wind. Fantastic service. The hamachi was very fishy. I remember the food being better in 12/23 when we came. I felt this year, the 3-courses were average and at $150 per person, it felt over-priced. The wine was wonderful.

It was a lovely sitting. You get 3 corses for 150.00 per person. The corses are small and my lobster main corse wasn’t very tasty. Our dinner was 720.00 with tip. We did have a 250.00 bottle of wine. Was very expensive for what you receive.
