   Service and overall experience was severely lacking today. From the 15 minute wait past our reservation time, to being asked to walk slowly to the table so it could be set, to not getting water and other drink refills unless we asked and having to ask for our check twice, it was just not a good experience. Very disappointing end to our weekend.

   I was staying at the Dupont Circle Hotel, so I made a reservation at The Pembroke. The restaurant looked beautiful, and the menu looked good. Instead of being seated at a regular dining table, I was told that the restaurant was full and I could either sit at the bar, or take booth in the bar section. DESPITE THE FACT THAT I HAD A CONFIRMED RESERVATION!!! I ended up taking the booth because I was not interested in sitting at the bar. The booth was right across from the large entryway into the restaurant so there was a constant cool breeze blowing over my table all night. There was also a server station right behind my seat, so I could overhear all of their conversations. I believe that there is simply no excuse for refusing a regular dining table to a patron simply because they are party of one.

   Nice setting and tasty food. The service was intrusive. Multiple people asked, literally every two minutes, if we were ready to order … six times in the first ten minutes after arrival. We were rushed through the meal, and then the manager, who never stopped by to ask about the meal, informed us that we could continue our meal at the bar. Mind you, we had a reservation, and were on time. I was with an elderly friend who needed assistance. It was uncomfortable and unwelcoming.

   The Pembroke is generally terrific. Indeed, I have been there several times for bunch and dinner. The food and service are almost always great. Tonight, the food was fine; however, the service was uneven. It took 90 minutes for our entrees to appear. The server got drink orders wrong, and our sides came too long after our mains.

   Outstanding and attentive staff. Food was above average but not five stars. Salad had a hit of too much salt and pork was fattier than it should have been. Outstanding cocktail program including a perfectly made martini. “See and be seen” vibe.
