   Really enjoyed our meals. Children were well catered for and adult meals were very good. Two steak pies with delicious dauphinois potatoes and two roast beef dinners. The meat and Yorkshire puddings were excellent but the roast potatoes were hard and crispy. Overcooked or heated up. But this was a minor point as everything else was very good in such beautiful surroundings with very pleasant staff. Will definitely be back soon. We had a late afternoon dinner and the zoo had closed by the time we left so a lovely young lady escorted us to the main entrance.

   Experience very mixed. Taken to table immediately, room was too cool to be pleasant. Long wait for drinks. Ordered pork roast (without red cabbage) and a children’s pizza. Portion sizes were large, pork was excellent, red cabbage turned up and swamped the meal. Carrot was delicious and broccoli was ok. Potatoes tasted like last weeks refried, inedible. Children’s pizza, too much tomato not enough cheese, was left. Apple & blackberry crumble, not sure what they thought was crumble but was rock solid oats, inedible and childrens icecream missing the marshmallows. Too expensive for a half eaten meal that had potential to be so much better.

   Arrived and I had ticked on my booking form that it was for a birthday. As soon as we got there, they asked whose birthday it was, followed by the waitress saying happy birthday. We ordered a dessert which also had happy birthday written on it! This made the whole experience so special! There were three of us dining and all our food was amazing, piping hot and delicious. The service we experienced was outstanding and will definitely be dining there again! Thank you!

   Poor customer service by a very young waitress that seemed rather preoccupied by other things. We had to wave her down to order our meals and once they arrived we had to wait a further 10 minutes to be offered any drinks. When this arrived they were simply put down on the table rather abruptly-how very rude and impolite! This was a birthday meal celebration which I made a note of upon making reservations. A dinning experience that my husband and I would never like to experience ever again. A great shame as we have been members for over 5 years and have regularly dined at The Oak.

   Lovely setting. Service wonderful - friendly, attentive (but not intrusive) and very efficient. Food very nice and large portions. Value was definitely 5 stars as we dined on a special offer with 2 for 1 on main courses and a special offer on house wine. The final bill was therefore super reasonable.

   The first course was very nice and we had high expectations for the main course. Two of us chose fish and chips and having seen the plates of nearby diners we were looking forward to a hearty meal. Imagine our disappointment when two plates arrived with a fish that could be described as a minnow in batter. Apparently because two of us had ordered the same meal and it was on a two for one offer the size of the dish had been halved. Immediately we challenged this and it was rectified by supplying two further plates of fish and chips. Very disappointing that a lovely restaurant goes to such lengths with patrons. We have eaten regularly at this restaurant and this wasn’t the standard we expected. Be aware when ordering when this deal is offered as you will be short changed. You may also notice that there has been considerable increases in the price of the meals.

   Went to Chester zoo for my boyfriends 30th and took our baby, staff were so friendly and great with the little one. So attentive to us even when the room started to get busier. Food was fantastic, we both had the steak burgers and I wanted another one!!
