Review summary

The Met Dining Room offers a "beautiful view" of Central Park, paired with "excellent food" and attentive service. Diners appreciate the peaceful atmosphere away from museum crowds, and while the decor could use an update, the creative menu and "delicious crab cakes" receive high praise. Disappointing decline in experience at the Met dining room compared to pre-Covid. There was a table at the window but we were told it had to be reserved months in advance - yet it was empty the remainder of the night. The mushroom tart was flavorless. The cod cakes were way too salty. Between course our knives were replaced but not the forks. Previously there was a choice of bread and breadsticks. Now we received one stale white roll. The kitchen was so noisy it could be heard from across the dining room. The water for the tea was tepid. All at premium prices. After decades of going to the Met for dinner on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, we will be looking for some where else to dine after the museum.

Miso cod was great. Chicken was ordinary. No vanilla ice cream! Waiter was fine.

First time back since reno, it's really surprising that it's just not a special atmosphere at all, plain walls no design, carpet flooring, yes windows are great but if you're not facing them as I don't and I stared at a blank beige wall with entrance doors? The prices are as if it's Michelin star but it's just not special for a "MET museum dining room", yes I'm a patron member so forgive me for saying I expect more, I said to my mother (member since the 70's) I feel like I'm in a hotel breakfast room...

The Met Dining Room offers a straightforward, but not elaborate menu of wonderfully prepared dishes. It proved to be a fantastic place to take a break from touring the museum and regroup in an elegant and quiet setting.

Whenever we are at the Met we make sure to get reservations for the dining room. It overlooks Central Park and our experience is always A+.

Our server was excellent, filled our glasses with iced tea without having to track her down. The ambience is great - a good view of the obelisk. My only criticism is that I requested a "medium rare hamburger" and it came out medium. I didn't want to wait for a redo and the quality of the meat was fine -- it just wasn't perfect.
