Many times we frequented the previous Lafayette Hideout location & enjoyed the meals & the service. This was our first visit to the relocation in the Cooperage building & as stated in our reservation, we were celebrating our anniversary. The hostess didn't welcome us or even make eye contact. She seemed overwhelmed & unsure of what she was doing. Would a "happy anniversary" been too much? Although we had a reservation, were on time, a number of people behind us (at least 6), were seated before us. We were seated at a table in the draft of the door leading to the patio which was continually opened due to staff responsibilities. It was 43 degrees outside, & not much better where we were seated. 15 minutes after being seated we had received water & no sign of a waiter. The bus staff appeared to be the competent employees. Someone in management eventually took our order. Food was delivered in a timely manner. A waitress finally approached the table after we had eaten our entreé. When the room is full, the acoustics are extremely loud. It was a disappointing experience in comparison to the original Hideout Kitchen. Due to the quality of the food I would recommend the Hideout Kitchen, however visit on a warmer day when outside seating is applicable & one may hear your companion speaking. Leave extra time in case the service continues to be sporadic.

We almost always eat in Oakland, Berkeley and SF because it's hard to find good food and flavors through the tunnel. Hideout nails it. The lamb shank, the fried chicken, the squash all as good as you get in the City. Delicious. Could still use some work on their craft cocktails, but the food was excellent.

We used to go to the old location on Mt. Diablo Blvd which was smaller and quaint. We've gone to the new location 3 times now, always hoping for a better experience and tastier food. Unfortunately, what we've found is that food isn't as good (portions are smaller too) and while the ambience is nice and energetic, it is loud and could use some acoustical buffering inside. We really want to like this place as much as the old location, and feel like 3 tries is good number to give it. But unfortunately, it doesn't stack up.

I had the kale salad and it was delicious! We tried to sit inside but way too loud to visit amongst ourselves so we took a table on the enclosed patio which was very nice.

Consistently wonderful. Signature dishes, great service, lovely ambiance. The wine list could use some work at the lower and middle prices.

Our first visit to The Hideout and it won’t be our last. We enjoyed a nice lunch with good food and company. Next time we will try dinner.
