Craft Beer & Fine Drinks / American Diner Food

Make yourself at home in this magnificent heritage building. The beers are cold, and you're always welcome.

During the day the space is bright and spacious with high top seating at the front and a dining area at the back. At night the venue is warm and sultry with low level lighting.

The music varies from Indie to Classic Rock, to Alternative Rock or Ragga Dub. Sometimes its 90's or 00's classics, or 80's jams.

There's live music on Friday nights from 7-10pm, and Sundays from 4-7pm. Fridays are mostly pub covers. Sunday is independent Melbourne musicians.

The bar and lounge area downstairs features 15 taps of independent craft beer. There's excellent cocktails covering classics as well as our own in house delights. The wine list is ever growing and the drinks list changes seasonally.

Upstairs remains a stunning private function room with a capacity for 100 people, inquire for more details.

The food is American inspired Australian smoked BBQ independently supplied and cooked by Limp Brisket, which is one of Melbourne's top smoked BBQ kitchens that's been cooking up a storm on the festival and mobile food scene for a couple of years. Service is carried out at the bar, so there isn't table service, although the bar team from The Hack will be out and about on the floor if you have any questions.
  • Private party facilities
We have a beautiful private function room on the upper level of the venue. It has its own fully functioning bar with 4 taps for beer/cider, and can be stocked with other drink from the downstairs bar. With a seating capacity of 75 and a standing capacity of 100 it is a flexible and diverse space, which works very well for smaller cozier dinners, or larger parties looking to get up and dance and have a right good time. Live music is welcome. The food options cater for cocktail style canapes, or indulgent banquette style BBQ feast. Great with a cold thirst quenching beer, or one of our delicious and sumptuous wines.

Incredibly disappointed with our experience. Primary reason being that the menu was apparently changed from the typical (wonderful) menu to an in-between (drab) winter menu. Note: current menu online is NOT what is being served.

Usually this place is great. But this visit was very disappointing. Undercooked/raw chicken wings. The staff were rude and wouldnt listen when i tried to show how raw the wings were. And it wasnt even busy. Train your staff in providing helpful customer service.

We booked a table for 7 on a Saturday night whilst staying at Albert Park for a conference. It’s a cool looking pub from the outside and it was easy to get a reservation - that’s the positives. We ordered drinks, starters and mains. The drinks were expensive, the food was definitely well below average. There was a “deconstructed nachos” which was served with tortilla chips that were a strange mix of fresh and stale chips. We ordered beef burgers, chicken burgers and pasta for mains. The beef burger was ok, nothing amazing but met minimum requirement. The chicken burgers were disgusting. They had a strange taste and both people in our group that ordered them left them and couldn’t finish their meals they were that awful. Our table was left covered in plates with no wait staff coming to clear it for about an hour after we finished eating. We cleared the table ourselves. Upon paying our $300 bill, I was asked if everything was ok. I gave some feedback about the burgers not being good (I tried to be kind and refrain from using stronger language). I was then asked how bad they were and I said “Well they couldn’t eat them”. Even with this feedback, I was still asked to pay the bill in full. With so many awesome pubs in Melbourne, it doesn’t make sense to waste a meal somewhere like this. Sorry guys.

Service and food was so poor. We went for dinner to celebrate our daughters birthday and we were so disappointed. They gave us 30% off of our bill due to the poor service and then we discovered that they overcharged us for items that we never received. Will not be returning.

We had a table of 6 hungry blokes. It was difficult getting service and the food was ok at best. We walked out hungry after ordering the beef brisket. Thank god we ended up at Bay 101 awesome coffee awesome service and a choice of deserts to fill us up. I don’t think The Hack will be there long unless they pick up their game.
