Nice old time charm. Food is good to very good. The Ahi tuna was delicious, but it was smothered in quinoa. Prices are at the high end, but it is a BYOB. I would give it 31/2 stars right down the line, doesn't quite make 4 stars, but would go back.

Fantastic food served in an 1800's dining room beautifully maintained. Charming room, entrees enjoyed by all.

The place was very dated, and dirty. Stains on tables, old food scrapes on floors. Host was sloppily dressed. Although food was ok and waiter very nice, I would not put on my "go back" list.

In the middle of August on a Thursday night at 7:00 this place should have been standing room only. It wasn't. There are 30 plus tables and there were only 3 tables that had people at them. That is not a comforting feeling as a customer. Frankly, my wife and I were concerned about the quality of the food as this place was empty. The food was mediocre at best. We used to come to this place in the late 90's and it was 5 star. Not anymore.

This restaurant is a solid 3. If you don't feel like cooking and are looking for a last-minute place to go, this is it. It is BYOB, so we brought in a nice bottle of wine. I had the rib-eye special and received a larger steak than I expected and it was cooked perfectly. My wife enjoyed her salad and her rack of lamb, but she would have liked on more chop.

One of the worst meals ever served to us -this place use to be a Gem and now it's the biggest dump ever. They should really be embarrassed and stop serving food ever again. I was so shocked at awful the food and service was here. Never again and people should stay Away

Hotel Hell needs to come here, and quick! You aren't supposed to judge a book by its cover, but the building is an ugly pink and blue on the outside. When you go in, it's hideous on the inside. Nothing has ever been updated it looks, and there's signs saying don't forget to smile. When we went there to eat, there was no one at the hostess desk for the restaurant, and we were seated by the hotel desk worker. Once seated, it took a very long time for our waiter to even come over. When he finally did he says "are you ready to order?" We say yes, and he walked away and took another table's order. Please keep in mind, there was only about 4 tables being served at that time. He came over and we ordered. 30 minutes later, he came back and said there was a computer error, and our food was taking long. I then went and asked if we could at least get our salads, 15 minutes later they came. Over an hour after we got there we still were waiting for our food. I asked to speak to the owner or manager, and they couldn't be bothered. I told the waiter if it would be more than 5 minutes cancel it, he was again rude and said it was coming out. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and let the food come out. 3 of the 6 dishes came out. The pasta dish I ordered was overcooked, and the garlic taste was unbearable. However, the final straw was when we found hair in the dish (keep in mind the other food still didn't come out). I personally got up, brought the hair dish to the front desk and showed them. Still no owner or manager could be bothered. I told them to cancel the rest of the food, and we left. Pros: nothing Cons: inside, outside, food, waiter, service, manager

The seating was very cramped for Sunday morning Brunch. We waited a very long time in line for Brunch that my husband went and sat at the table for about a half and hour until the line went down. The Brunch Buffet should have been set up differently where patrons could get access to the Buffet in more than one way. There should have been more of a fruit selection (only 2) and also pastries and rolls (not brownies and fudge) I don't think I would go back for Brunch and also we only had the breakfast portion which made this an expensive meal.

This was easily the worst dining experience ever......from the time we walked in to our reserved table for four, set with three place settings, until we left, there is not one positive thing I can say. It was terrible, start to finish. It took two requests to get our fourth place setting....then we glanced at the buffet table, which was totally unappetizing. Salad falling off the salad serving plate, soup that was congealed, roast potatoes that were overcooked, totally unimaginative sweet potatoes with a large marshmallow on each slice, chicken 'francaise' in miniscule pieces mixed into a rice casserole, turkey, which was the 'feature', torn in pieces so small there were none big enough to need a knife and only a very small portion of that as well.... it shared a chafing dish with the ham. Ham in one inch squares, sitting in some type of liquid, and beef, again in liquid, so tough, that I could not even cut it....so I couldn't even try to eat it. I have volunteered in soup kitchens where the quality of the food was far better. And then there was the waitress, who spilled water, on the floor, as she was filling our glasses, and instead of wiping it up, just told us 'to be careful when we got up!' Maybe wiping it would be a good idea? The next insult was the 'dessert' table.....pumpkin pie and chocolate cake cut into slivers no larger than 1/2 ' each......we figured they got 26 slices from a 9" pie. All we could do was laugh. In addition to all of that, the 'management' staff were dressed for working on their landscaping....a red tee shirt with 'Canada' written on it doesn't cut it, nor does a messy sweater. Haven't they heard of dress clothes? It was Christmas for heaven's sake! All in all, I want the owners to know that this was a very disappointing experience....and I am wondering if this restaurant should even appear on Open Table which we think of as a quality dining website. A restaurant in upscale Bay Head should do better than this!!!!
