The whole experience from entering to leaving was excellent. The staff were friendly and talkative when you spoke to them. The staff in the restaurant part were superb and friendly also. We got shown about the gardens etc and told where we could get some really nice pictures of Leith etc. Its a place where i would go back to without any problems. The food was lovely and hot also including the tomato, the coffee was hot and strong as well. The staff were relaxed and helpful when needed.

Not quite what we were expecting. On arrival at reception it was lovely, but we were then directed to the lift which took us up to the level The Snug is on. We had to walk along a long corridor of bedrooms and suites to reach The Snug. It felt like our table had been set out of the way, we were in an alcove next to the emergency exit. We very much felt that the area was for hotel guests only and not for general members of the public. The menu was limited and not as expected, but nice. We couldn't find the menu online and to be honest, if we had, we possibly would have gone elsewhere.

Odd set up for afternoon tea. A window-less space, little atmosphere, inattentive staff - pretty disappointing unfortunately.

Food was a let down- the savoury foods were bland and did not as advertised, have any Scottish style things(except tough dry smoked salmon bagel thing). The cakes were ok- scones nice. Went here about 4 years ago and we were sat on the glasshouse so had a nice view and food was excellent but this time we were put in the snug Which is just a large hallway between hotel rooms so did not get the view and afternoon tea was just not as good so but disappointed.

Harry was fantastic! Right level of attentive and ensured we knew every item on our afternoon tea (both have dietary requirements). He notified us of his shift leaving and his colleague would then look after us Except after that we were totally left. Nobody offered more drinks or cleared the tea stands or empty glasses. Would have been 5 stars if we hadn't been abandoned.
