Once the church formed part of the medieval parish of North Marston, then in Buckinghamshire, and the renowned Rector Sir John Schorne (died 1314) who was deemed a holy man and miracle worker with gout and toothache sufferers, is reputed to have cast the devil, old Jack, into a boot here, giving rise to the Jack in a Box toy! The only devil you will find at the French Horn today though is the delicious devilled kidneys from our menu which we believe offers a truly gastronomic selection for all tastes and combined with the excellent wine selection and ale cellar, we think you will understand why the good Rector didn’t want any interruption to his feasting!
Whether your occasion is a casual meal in the beamy bars or lovely gardens or a cosy group in the restaurant, the French Horn gives you the choice to dine however your occasion requires.

We have just come back from our first visit to the French Horn but it certainly won't be our last! We had a delicious lunchtime meal with friends - the food was excellent as was the service. We have already booked again and I can't wait to go back for the wonderful devilled kidneys on fried bread... my only problem was that it was a starter and not a main course.

I like the old world charm and mix of tables and chairs and seating areas. It would be nice when ordering dessert and coffee if they asked if we wanted them together or one after the other. Toilet itself was clean but not sure about walls, ledges and floors. They need a coat of paint too.

Entrée plat de mer partagé délicieux. Gamon un peu trop salé mais de bonne qualité . Dans l’ensemble nous avons été satisfaits de notre repas

Great service, fabulous food (mussels and beef sirloin). Last time sirloin was melt in the mouth, this visit, not quite as good. Great ambience and light music.

I must say I have been there a lot over the last 20 years and this was the most disappointing. The website gives a 'sample menu' but the menu on Friday evening was very small and basically it mainly consisted of burgers. I had looked before I came and chose a pie (as it did not matter what one followed, then thought the brisket (as I had had it before) followed by ham and my friend has also looked (we suggested to we met there) had chosen halibut or ham. None of them were on the menu and I am not keen on burgers (and not a great lover of chips) but ordered the jerk chicken which was in a burger roll . It was delicious but very disappointing that on our night out we had to have a burger. My friend who does not like burgers chose a starter for two for the main course as there was nothing to choose from. It is a shame as I had recommended your restaurant as we had always like the atmosphere and food but they sadly were not impressed and would not hurry back. I really do think even though it is sample menu that there are other choices other than burgers on the menu.

Met here for a 'catch up' with friends and booked online specifically requesting a quiet table. It just so happened that England had just played and won their way into the semi final of the World Cup. Consequently the bar area was very busy and loud (understandably) and it is the local village pub. There was a misunderstanding re the request and we shown to a table which was anything but quiet. We asked if we could be moved to a quieter table and the gentleman who greeted us could not have been more helpful. Having found us a lovely quiet and airy table by an open window as it was a very hot evening. The meal itself was freshly cooked and very tasty, served by a very cheerful young lady. I had the Monkfish which was cooked to perfection and a lovely cheeseboard to finish. If I was going to add a constructive criticism I would suggest that someone replaces some of the really badly peeled and worn place mats which would not cost a fortune but makes such a difference. Some were very damaged and ever so slightly let down the really lovely traditional décor which someone has taken a lot of trouble sourcing to create a homely and relaxed atmosphere. It was the first time we have dined there and we will return to try other dishes on the menu. Thank you to The French Horn for an overall pleasurable evening.

We had an excellent meal. The menu is relatively small but four of us had no problems choosing what we would have. We each had something different. The quality of the food was very good. The pub is tranquil and has a relaxing atmosphere. The service is friendly, and you are not bothered - which is very welcome. We will certainly return.

The service was prompt and the staff were friendly and polite. However I thought the food was overpriced and the menu consisted mainly of different burger meals. I can go to McDonald s for those. I had a steak but only half a mushroom and tomato as garnish. Surely they could have run to a whole mushroom!!
