Pull back the portico curtains and step into the historic downtown Newport mansion once owned by businessman Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt that has been reimagined as a glamorous social hub with a culinary secret to discover at every turn. From an intimate dining room with an intriguing menu of savory local dishes to the sun-dappled Conservatory and dining al fresco in The Garden, the dining scene at The Vanderbilt is crackling with alluring eccentricities just waiting to be explored.

Important Notes: Reservations are held for 15 minutes beyond the scheduled arrival time, and during peak service hours you may not be seated until your entire party has arrived. Once your party is assembled, we will offer you the next available table for a party of your size. Also, we do our utmost to accommodate all guest requests upon check-in, but unfortunately cannot guarantee any particular seating preferences.

Love the atmosphere. Sophisticated but not hoity-toity. Attractive looking bar area as well. Cozy corner tables as well as a fireplace table. Food is very good, but quantity is glaringly deficient. Especially for the price. I would have given this a four stars overall except for the service that we had that night. It’s possible that our waitress was new, but she was very slow in attending to us when it came to wanting to order drinks, food, more drinks, the bill……… The other waitresses were running circles around her. Either the prices have to come down or the quantity of food has to go up in order to make it five stars. But it has potential to gain that rating.

Amazing experience. They greeted us with champagne for my hubby’s birthday. The oysters were top notch, the steak and fries were delicious. Great environment, great service. We’ll be back. I’m sure the warm weather and daylight would make this a great lunch spot in the summer.

We had a wonderful Sunday Roast dinner. The food was amazing, and the staff was more than accommodating as we were there celebrating an 80th birthday. The only thing that was slightly disappointing was that they have a small 2 seat table directly in front of the fireplace so in order to enjoy or even see the fireplace is to sit at that 2-person table. When we arrived, a couple had been sitting there for several hours and although we were able to move to the fireplace table after appetizers for the dinner, it would have been nice if the tables were positioned so that the fireplace could be seen from the other tables in the room. With that said, it was an absolutely wonderful experience, and the Vanderbilt has maintained the historic ambiance that is so important to Newport. I would highly recommend a visit.
