The Canteen is a full-service neighbourhood restaurant in Downtown Dartmouth, serving up chef-inspired seasonal fare for lunch, brunch and dinner. At the helm in the kitchen is award-winning chef and co-owner Renee Lavallee. Her seasonal menus are influenced by classic French, Italian and traditional Nova Scotian cuisine – with a little bit of Renée’s magic thrown in.     Ambiance très sympa, très bonne table sans prétentions! Les plats sont très copieux (un peu trop)! On y retournera car le prix est raisonnable!

    Fantastic…. And I do mean FANTASTIC. Only one small downside is that the seating at the bar was not comfortable, low backs, slope away seating wasn’t good. Apart from that this place is a GEM! We’ve been before & will go back again!

    After going to The Canteen multiple times, I’ve never had a bad meal. Food is always top-notch - fill of flavour. It’s a great casual atmosphere where everyone from all walks of life enjoy. It’s a Dartmouth mainstay.

    We enjoyed the Dine Around menu, the food was excellent, I highly recommend the mushroom soup in particular. The Malbec was very good. good value and excellent service as usual.

    Server was great and the food also beautiful and tasty. Even with the dividers and ceiling baffles, it is still a bit noisy, a sign of happy customers but still sound is high.

    We went for Dine Around. The mushroom soup was delish! The pork & zucchini pasta with homemade ricotta was flavourful and also very tasty. We'll be coming back for sure.

    Every time I go to the canteen the whole experience is top notch. The food - delicious! Marc, our server, - awesome! Atmosphere - love! The margaritas - OMG! Thank you guys :)
