Welcome to the Butchers Arms.

Our 16th century Public House is situated on Lime Street in the parish of Eldersfield near Gloucester.

The Butchers Arms is first and foremost a rural pub, where the bar is the hub of life, with low ceilings, wooden floors, roaring fires and real ale served straight from the cask.

The food is British and we source only the finest ingredients from local suppliers. The menu constantly changes according to what is in season.

Please note that as it is a small pub and we are unable to cater for children under the age of 10.

Once found the Butchers Arms exudes charm. Very warm welcome and log burner adding warmth on a wet day. Overall the food was excellent however, a little mystified by the same sauce being served with the Venison and the duck? Presentation of starters and mains excellent. Price range pp was around £45 -£50 3 starters, 3 mains 1 desert.

Superb food and service as usual - couldn't fault either - the oysters were a nice addition and the goujons were a definite highlight Not a great table situ wise - right next to bar stools with noisy/sweary customers meant our own conversation was difficult to hear - much prefer being tucked away and will request that next time Alongside other guests booked in for 6.30, pitch black with no external lights and the gates locked in the rain at 6.20 isn't ideal - usually arrive a little early for a booking so perhaps mention this on the website

Dear Alison, thank you so much for your review and your feedback. Glad you enjoyed the food. Sorry that the bar noise at your table was too loud. Most of the time we get the right balance between bar and restaurant at the pub, but on this occasion yes it was a very busy bar. We have a zero tolerance to customers swearing, so apologies that you heard this, as it is not acceptable. The pub was in pitch black with no lights as we were not open. Indeed on Saturday night everyone arrived very early and at 6:10pm we were not ready to open the doors, but we did as the weather was awful. I appreciate everyone was very keen to get in and will bear this in mind for the future.

Very welcoming, relaxed and friendly as soon as you enter this beautiful old pub. The food is superbly cooked and presented, with excellent dish choices for meat and fish lovers. The drink options are very well selected, with excellent options to accompany each course, should you wish. Bottled or tap water always offered. As well as going for an evening meal as a treat, we often walk up to have a drink at the bar or sit in the lovely, quiet garden. Beers are very well kept and wines always very good.

The menu was limited, expensive and not much on the plate. We ordered the steak, tasty enough but there was only a carrot, a tiny half an onion, some celeriac purree and a handful of fries which were described as Koffman’s but didn’t seem any different from ordinary shop-bought ready prepared fries. We were disappointed given the price at £34.

Dear Judith, so sorry that you were disappointed with your main course. You did however enjoy your puddings! Kind regards Jo
