The Belgian Monk opened in December 2000. The main objective was to create something different yet to fit in with the way drinking and dining is changing. It has become a successful and established bar and restaurant, offering customers a choice of a regular selection of some 45 beers together with a selection of special beers. The menu is based on serving only the best products available freshly prepared daily, at realistic prices, in an informal relaxed "friends and family" atmosphere. It provides more than just the meal or drink but a whole Belgian experience. Now owned and run by Wursty Four Biers Ltd the new owners hope to take this fantastic venue to new heights and enhance the service style and offer. Sincerely not to be missed!

This was my second visit and it wasn't nearly as good. We felt rushed from the start. Despite being invited to take our table and peruse the beer menu, the server appeared for our order before we had even had time to open the menu. When my first choice, the Orval, wasn't available I should have asked for more time but didn't. The drinks arrived promptly and we were asked if we were ready to order food. We ordered and the food arrived before I had finished half of my beer. Despite this I was asked if I wanted another beer with my meal. The plates were cleared and we were asked if we wanted dessert. We declined and the bill was brought to the table: we weren't asked if we wanted another beer! And then at 20.18 we were told that the table was needed in fifteen minutes so we needed to get moving. We had reserved a table for two for 19.15. The bitterballen starter looked and tasted fresh. Really enjoyed those. Fish and chips for main was however bland. Skin still on the battered fish, mushy peas a bit dry and still crunchy. Kind of expected better. For my first visit I came for the beer and stayed for the food, being there for three hours. That's what brought me back. This time I came for the food as well and was chucked out after just over an hour, or that's how it felt. Wish I could be more positive

The food was good standard but the service we received was sub standard A4 paper menus that had stains on from previous use and had to wait for them to be brought to table Part of our meal was brought to table and we had to wait for the rest approximately 5 minutes so asked for the food to be re heated, the waiter rolled his eyes but agreed at this point we pointed out that we didn’t have plates No apologies were given and food was good I did expect more from this restaurant as had a good reputation

Absolutely the worse experience going for a meal. Valentines night wasn’t told about the set menu same as other people who came in a left because of this reason. Honestly the list of poor effort is unreal.

The restaurant was so cold we sat shivering and left as soon as we could. 2 of us were staring straight into the toilet as the door was missing. The food lacked flavour - needed more seasoning.

We were probably only the 2nd diners taken upstairs for lunch. Ordered food at 12:30…after 40 minutes wait I started asking where our two dishes were…young chap apologised and said they’d be a few minutes. Had to ask three more times and were given the same news. Felt for the waiter though. Finally received the food after an hour. The food was good just so disappointed at having to wait so very long. The manager appeared in the dining room numerous times but left the apologies to his staff…
