Beautiful room, but as per usual, the food and service very mediocre. If you truly want to run a first rate restaurant and hotel, you need to find a vendor that is not primarily contracted to run correctional facilities.

Buffet food "service" is getting old, as are some of the items in the not-so-warm serving displays. We found the prime rib, medium rare and rare to be wonderful and tender. Some of the side dishes were cold, luke-warm and even dried out.

Breakfast Buffet. The Ahwahne is a beautiful location to dine in and great ambiance, history and views out the windows. Breakfast offerings we good, especially the biscuits and gravy. Scrambled eggs were good as was the plain yogurt ( thick and not sweetened!) and raspberry topping. Did not try other options so no opinion there. Coffee and orange juice were acceptable .

Dinner at the Ahwahne is a buffet and buffets have their challenges. On a positive note, the prime rib was great and it was served with two types of horseradish and au jus. It was great. The soup, tomato florentine, was good as were both types of salads. But from there, the food sort of goes down hill. The vegetables were not good....over cooked, cold and just didn't taste good. The potatoes (sort of chunky smashed potatoes) were okay but cold. The shrimp was over cooked. The bass was overcooked and dry. Did not try most starches so no opinion there. Desserts were pretty good, especially the baklava and lemon bars. All in all, a sort of so so meal.....nothing to write home about but the dining room is fantastic and the ambiance is great. Wait staff was good.

The best part of eating here is the ambience. It’s pretty cool to see where the Shining was filmed and the rustic architecture is cool. The food is flat at best. Lower your expectations as the meat was bland and there were super limited options on the buffet. I think my boys ate more dessert than anything else.

Buffet was the only option, food was not what you would expect for such a historic hotel.
