The Academy Hotel is a new edition to the Small Luxury Hotels of The World. Situated in the heart of Bloomsbury in London's West End, The Academy comprises a collection of five Georgian townhouses from 1762.

Luxury lifestyle interiors created by award winning New York-based designer Alexandra Champalimaud, who has created an engaging blend of modern and vintage with a nod to the lives and loves of the bohemian Bloomsbury Set who lived and worked in the area in the early 20th Century.

The cosy Alchemy Bar and Courtyard is the perfect West End retreat for bespoke cocktails, speciality gins, a refreshing glass of wine or champagne and signature Mr Ma's Afternoon Tea experience.

Very quaint a boutique hotel. Nice afternoon tea considering the price. Unfortunately my wife fell ill so couldn’t eat anything, but staff were friendly and brought it up to the room for me instead.

The bar room we were seated in was lovely and staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was alright, the ambience definitely added to the experience as a whole.

They didn’t know we were coming, afternoon tea was advertised outside but there didn’t seem to be anyone having tea. We were asked to wait 30mins. We decided to leave and go elsewhere.

The price is reasonable for high tea, but the service was lacking. The wait staff didn't check the tea or ask us if we'd like a refill, and after bringing the food seemed to disappear. We did have a very nice conversation with the people sitting next to us, and the food was good (not great). We had to search the area to finally find someone to pay when we were done.

Staff was so sweet and left a birthday card for my friend - we were celebrating a 30th birthday. Very sophisticated, elegant and private setting
