Located in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit, TAKOI is known for modern Thai cooking accented with Michigan seasonality, a DIY mentality, and a penchant for local food production. As a core pillar of our mission, TAKOI operates HiO Farm which is located just a mile north of the restaurant. During the height of farm season, the restaurant highlights dishes prepared with HiO produce utilizing the techniques and flavors inspired by Thailand and beyond.


TAKOI, originally KATOI, began as a food truck in 2014, evolved into an Ann Arbor pop-up, and landed as a proper restaurant at 2520 Michigan Avenue in March of 2016. After being open for 11 months, having a slew of fun, and garnering a handful of awards — including a James Beard 'Best New Restaurant' nomination— KATOI was brought back down to earth when it was subjected to arson in February 2017. The day after the fire, the rebuild began, and we opened as TAKOI exactly six months later in August 2017.

The restaurant grows its own produce a mile up the road for dishes like an heirloom tomato salad with chile paste and fried shallots or a killer fried chicken sandwich with papaya salad, served in a colorful, glowing dining room and outdoor patio.

    Vday chefs tasting menu was amazing! All 6 courses were phenomenal! One of the best red curries ive ever had that came with the whole fried fish. Carrot salad type dish was also one of the uniquest and tastiest ever. Love going to takoi!

    Rotating menu was fantastic as usual but they had no Thai or Asian bottles beers and no hot tea. Otherwise exceptional.

    Everything was amazing. Our server (I’m so sorry I forgot their name) was really knowledgeable and helpful when we were deciding what to get. All of our food was perfect, the sea bream is amazing if you’re a seafood lover. My husband does not drink and they had a very wide selection of NA cocktails which was super cool. I love Thai tea and their cocktail Special Tea was a great alcoholic take on the drink. Love, thank you for a great (early) Valentine’s Day dinner for us. :)

    We went to Takoi to celebrate my husband's birthday. We chose the Chef's tasting menu. It was fantastic. It included 7 courses including dessert. Only one course, the Pad Thai noodles with tofu, were a bit too spicy and I like spicy. The spice level sort of overpowered the flavor. The sea bream was phenomenal!! We love trying a tasting menu because we know that so often we might opt out of a dish based on its description, but once everything comes, it is such a fun pleasure to just dig in and try something different. Highly recommend Takoi!
