   This was often my go-to for client dinners, special occasions, or even just a casual night with friends. I often recommended this as one of my top five for when people asked for dinner recs. But tonight’s dinner was unfortunately one of the worst dining experiences in a very long time. We ordered at least 10 dishes and more than half were untouched. Either too salty, spices were overwhelming, or the meat was tough (pork, beef and chicken). I’ve never experienced an establishment going from a top five to a “I’ll never return”. Not sure if it was an off night or if there is a more permanent change somewhere in the kitchen. Our waiter was sympathetic and gracious when he noticed that most of our dishes went untouched, which we appreciated. Luckily, a friend in the food industry was able to snag us a last min res elsewhere so we could properly celebrate our bday dinner. Also dined at The Progress just a few nights ago with friends and the food there was also underwhelming. Disappointed!

   food was fantastic, i couldn't get enough of the flavor's. I would defiantly recommend and cannot wait to go back.

   A truly unique experience, it fully deserves the high ratings. The only downside I did not feel I’m eating at an elegant and high end place even though it’s priced as on. I highly recommend my friends to try this

   This is my second time at State Bird (first was many years ago when they first opened). It was an excellent meal, and I was surprised at how reasonably priced it was compared to most high quality restaurants in SF.

   Don’t come here for a quiet date. Fun environment, food was tasty and imaginative. Great place for a date but busy and loud. Great for a fun date or meet up with a friend but leave the family at home and enjoy the distractions both food and energy around you.

   Great experience and wonderful food. Highly recommend the State Bird signature dish and all the goodies from the dim sum menu.

   We'd been to Progress and Anchovy Bar (the other two of the Atomic Workshop triumvirate) a couple of times and loved them both. This was our first time to the flagship, and it did not disappoint... much. We arrived pretty early and the maitre d' told us it was no problem, and seated us at a table right near the door. When we asked her if we could move to a warmer spot, she said there was nothing else available, but we could wait at the bar at Progress. We did, and it was quite a bit warmer; not sure why. We did get a table at our appointed time, far from the door but not much warmer. Our server seemed robotic in his delivery of the options (a la carte off the menu and/or pointing at stuff on trolleys that went by, dim sum style) but showed great humor whenever we could get a word in edgewise. The schnitzel on the menu was lovely; everything else -- short ribs, oysters, seafood dip with chips, etc. -- was off the trolley, and most of that was even better. Conversation for your slightly hearing-impaired reporter was difficult over the other tables and the booming music.
