The perfect Spring lunch. We rarely get to lunch together in town in the week so it was a special event. We sat at the bar counter to peer into the kitchen and onto the pass. Wonderful bone dry Riesling to start, with some delicious oysters. We saw a plate of mackerel “one mouthful” bites on brown bread and had to add those. A beautifully simple dish of cold roast pork with radishes , a salad, and some perfectly fresh French bread made a light but filling lunch. Sparkling service from staff who know their food makes all the difference. Even some fresh shortbread straight out of the oven with coffee. Always a treat to dine here.

The same deliciousness of St John, but in a smaller space. Sit outside if you can, as it’s quite stuffy inside.

Sat in the basement after requesting not to be. Service incredibly slow so only one small dish came out at a time, and these were too small to be shared between four people. Incredibly expensive for small portions and the overwhelming flavour present in every dish was mustard.

This place is an absolute gem. The mussels, rarebit, roasted Hereford and madeleines were highlights. Service was great too - friendly and informative!

Started well, rarebits and potted pork were great. We had discussed the amount of mustard that there might be in the pork main with the waitress and chose against it, after she highlighted that there would be a lot and I said I didn’t like it. It was unfortunate that she did not point out that mustard would also dominate the salt cod dish we went on to order. There were also lashings of it beneath the rarebit - though more to be expected - but still too much even for my friend who does enjoy it! After mentioning it and very politely asking to return the salt cod dish - I couldn’t eat it - we were neglected and received no service for the remainder of the meal. Having to chase the desert menu, and then chase again to order desserts, and finally again for the bill. Not very relaxing! And they hadn’t removed the salt cod from the bill.. Disappointing.
